Hey guys, Andiio asked me this question (part b, in particular) before and I can't remember how to do math LOL. So can you guys please take over from here?
The question is in a word document.
We say thanks :)

Could you guys also help with this question please?

Let f(x) = px+q/x+r where x is an element of R\{-r,r}
a) If f(x) = f(-x) for all x, show that f(x) = p for x is an element of R\{-r,r}
b) If f(-x) = -f(x) for x is not equal to 0, find the rule for f(x) in terms of q.

Not sure what a) wanted you to do; I wrote px+q/x+r = q-px/r-x then i was like hm... ahha!

Thanks! :D

a) is just to show it's even

b) is to show it's odd

a) is just to show it's even

b) is to show it's odd

Yea I was thinking along the lines of an even/odd function, but why does it specify '= p' and function 'in terms of q'

For the question in your word document part b

CY = CX = 3-r
AX = AZ = x-r
AC = AX + XC = x - r + 3 - r = x + 3 - 2r

By pythagoras' theorem:

x^2 + 9 = AC^2

Rest is trivial

suggestion: long divide through the rational function, the answer is in your face :D (assuming you know how to graph hyperbolas)

OH you were supposed to add AX + XC like vectors? I got up to AX and CY and didn't know why the answer was combining the two.. lol thanks!!! :D

Not vectors, they are just lengths. By definition, vectors have direction and magnitude. Haven't you seen despicable me? :P
