This is rather pleasing! Even though it was an oversight to begin with which caused this whole situation to arise, I think it's fair to commend VCAA on handling it with a decent solution. Well played, VCAA....

anyone think the predicted A+ cutoff would be alot higher now?

since other than this it was a pretty straight forward exam, bar the last question

The A+ cutoff may be somewhere around 65...

Damn...I feel guilty

That means if I get 50 I would not deserve it...I'm quite sure that I made a small error on that paper, and it happened to be on Q3c - so i'd get 80/80 instead of 79/80 - 79/80 would not be a 50 considering one of the assessors at my school had a chat to me and said he marked two 58/58s (ext. response section) out of 500

You should feel really guilty for getting a mark that would get you at least 49 which then because of events outside of your control becomes a definite 50. I sure would. >_>

To everyone who's asking whether students who got the question right are 'advantaged' in any way, giving the students who got the question right an advantage over those who didn't kinda defeats the purpose of this adjustment?

If the original cutoff is similar to 2007, 61/80, then if the state on average is awarded 4/6 marks, I would presume that the new cutoff would be 63-65

I agree.  lame.  my calc was spitting out errors everywhere.  i only got this question in the last 5 minutes.

then I went through the exam earlier this week and it did it all flawlessly.

i think poor use of calculators has fooled vcaa into changing the marking scheme. :(

thats assuming that everyone used the casio classpad...

@thushan - just over 1 in 500 students get a 50, so if he's marked 2 full mark extended responses, that's not too surprising... I mean, it's more than you'd expect, but it's not statistically significant (could just be anomalies). And that presumes no marks dropped in the multiple choice section or exam one.

Anyway, anyone aside from me thinking that methods won't contribute to their ATAR at all? xD

But the mark changing applies to everyone.

i dont know if this is really fair or not.............................................................................................
anyway vcaa sucks for being careless with the exam. like as if they didnt check if all the questions were actually SOLVABLE on all the calculators?? its not the first time this has happened. and with the chemistry exam... forgetting the negative signs on the electrons? just shows how careless they are with the exams.

Yeah... i had casio and managed to come up with the answer. This is unfair to those of using casio and solved the question. But then again, like many have mentioned already, this might have been the best way for VCAA to make it fair to all and not disadvantage anyone.

This is the most fair they can get, they usually give full marks to everyone when they make an error so by doing this the top tier students are not disadvantaged and therefore getting 45+ isn't any harder then it was initially
