Imo, if you don't have the strongest foundation for math, (especially with a hard subject like methods) Essentials is definitely not that good... I'm not the brightest math student, and whenever I tried to comprehend the Essentials explanations, I never got it, but when I read my friends (From a diff school) textbook, I always understood whatever essentials made me confused about.. Essentials is for excelling an already capable student.. imo. If they use math quest it's probably easier to obtain a basic foundation, in terms of explanations and general skill

In terms of obtaining very basic knowledge, read through the Maths Quest book. However, don't bother doing any of the basic exercise questions because of the simplicity. However, the end of chapter reviews are not too bad.

If you want to excel in a topic, then make sure to do either the Heinemann or preferably, the Essentials textbook because those questions are quite tricky and actually make you 'think', just as they will during your end of year exams. Nonetheless, you will get heaps of them anyway when you complete practise exams, especially Kilbaha ones. xD

Put it this way. Maths Quest explains the concepts really well, whereas Essentials has hard questions and good examples. Its always good to see how different books are. Essentials is most definantly good if you already understand the concepts.
