Lex's English and Physical Education Tutoring
« on: December 14, 2010, 08:12:01 pm »
Hi VNers,

I'm Lex and I will be offering tutoring for English (48) and Physical Education (43) this year. Read below for all the details!

Rate: $35 p/h in-person, $20 p/h Skype, $15 p/h IM, $10 per writing piece.

Location: I live circa Preston/Northcote. I'm happy to meet you at a local library or in the city. I'm quite flexible provided that the location is near transport.

Availability: Sunday 2pm - 6pm, Monday 4pm - 8pm, Tuesday 4pm - 8pm.

What I offer in each subject:

VCE English: Unit 1-4 tutoring via online correspondence

I can provide students with detailed and perceptive feedback on their writing by email. I will devote my attention to tutoring for ‘Using Language to Persuade’, and the Context ‘Exploring Issues of Identity and Belonging’ with expertise in the following texts:
  • Growing Up Asian in Australia
  • Witness

I will work with you according to your needs and can provide you with specific and considered assistance. I am happy to annotate your writing, to discuss approaches, to dissect articles and to help you elucidate ideas. In Language Analysis I can aid you to interweave both macro-level and micro-level aspects of a persuasive piece. In ‘Creating and Presenting’ I want to encourage you to discover an abundance of ways for conveying ideas and connecting with both text and Context.

VCE Physical Education: Unit 3-4 tutoring in-person, via IM or Skype

I’m an avid Physical Education tutor and am currently undertaking a Bachelor of Applied Science (Physical Education) at RMIT University. I have a qualification as a fitness instructor (certificate III of fitness) and am working to extend my skills in a Personal Training course. I am actively engaged in enhancing student outcomes in VCE Physical Education through the VCE PE Hub student learning community I founded.

Being continuously engaged in professional development within the field means that I remain updated and in-touch. With a background in Biology, I can help you understand PE more throughly. By having a biological view of important aspects of Physical Education such as chronic adaptations to exercise, you are more likely to see the connections between different concepts and have a fundamental comprehension of these concepts rather than a superficial one.

I love PE and tutor it enthusiastically.

Why me?

  • My tutoring focuses on creative and conceptual learning, allowing students to think beyond the narrow scope and really interact with their study. I'll go into depth but I'll also ensure that you comprehend things holistically, instead of just making sure that you can regurgitate the details.
  • I know the study designs inside out. I tutor within them and will never waste your time on things that are clearly unnecessary. I can help you address the assessment criteria in VCE English and VCE Physical Education. My teachers were VCAA assessors and I have learnt a lot from them about the way exams are marked. I can transfer this on to you.
  • I put the onus on you. I am only there to galvanise your learning and provide feedback and advice. I believe that tutors have a responsibility to meaningfully enhance students' capacities, rather than simply completing work for them. I take a dynamic approach that empowers you as a student and encourages more profound improvement.
  • VCE teacher and podcaster Andrew 'Douchy' Douch has this to say about me: "I have rarely met a student who is as knowledgeable or as able to clearly unpack concepts as Lex... I think you're unlikely to find a tutor as competent as Lex."
  • Tutoring rates are negotiable and fair. I'm always willing to do that little bit extra; you'll probably get more than you payed for.

Heavily Endorsed!

One of the most passionate Physical Education tutors you will find! He committed hours worth of his time to help students, such as myself, learn the finer concepts of the P.E course.

You'd be missing out on a huge opportunity if you don't 'have the time' to listen to what Lex has to offer as a tutor.

Endorsed :) Lexitu is an amazing person and the only person I know who's becoming a teacher for the right reasons. He has strong background knowledge in the education and the learning sector and as of course the subjects he's tutoring.

Also, read his blog and admire his eloquent prose and insightful thoughts

Lexitu is, to put it simply, a great guy! Not only is he a beast at English, but he also partakes a very sophisticated look on life and society in general - which I'm sure will be all the more beneficial for anyone who chooses to get him as a tutor.

Met Lexitu for a session and already by meeting him, I know that he is able to articulate the necessary steps to writing a successful essay. Accompanied with his studies towards being a full time professional teacher, which would cost around 50 - 70 dollars for a professional teacher as a tutor, your having lexitu as a bargain.

So take him up while hes cheap and still fresh!

Cause if not, your missing out on Lexitu, a man filled with treasures of vast knowledge and deep insight in the English Language!
About Philosophy

When I see a youth thus engaged,—the study appears to me to be in character, and becoming a man of liberal education, and him who neglects philosophy I regard as an inferior man, who will never aspire to anything great or noble. But if I see him continuing the study in later life, and not leaving off, I should like to beat him - Callicle
