enigneering melb uni vs monash uni

Hi guys
I'm having trouble deciding whether to do engineering(probably civil) at monash or melb uni
Melb uni definitely has prestige and is internationally recognised, so perhaps it offers better employment opportunities after graduation
On the other hand, i've heard that the engineering faculty at monash is much better. Plus there is the added incentive of doing a double degree but clayton is quite far away from where i live. Much easier to get to melb so i'm kinda confused as to which is the best option

I would say take what is easier-Melbourne University, more closer, and I guess more 'prestiges' ( although Monash is not that far away either). But yeah I would do Melb if I was in your case.

I would say Monash.

• Facilities.
• Old Model.(Graduate with B.Eng, as opposed to a B.Sci-making Masters somewhat neccessary)
• General Feedback from Melb Uni(from about 5~6 students-mostly Materials/Electrical Eng)
    -Melb Eng sucks.
    -Do it at monash.
• General Feedback from Monash Uni (from about 3 students)
    -It rocks.
    -More interships opportunities(you can't graduate without one anyway, more incentives for the slackers  )
• More scholarship Opportunities as opposed to Melb Uni.
• Double Degree's are an option
• Certain branches of Engineering aren't available at Melb Uni

And Most Importantly.
I'm going there.  

Guess the only thing Melb Uni has going it's way is the name, but seriously, a degree of say M.I.T/UC or some prestigious Uni will not be able to carry a person far into an industry unless you have a proper tertiary education. I'm not saying that Melb Uni is bad (and don't even think that I imply MIT/UC are bad Uni's, they're just examples and quite farrrr away from Australia  ).

IMO, Monash Eng beats Melb Uni. Don't like things like distance/friends/other difficulties prevent you from choosing the right Uni.

P.S. This might be a tad biased since I'm going to Monash, but it does have some facts.

The BSci + MEng at melbourne uni is basically the first 3 years of any other uni's BEng, then the 4th year and a year of extra stuff in a 2 year masters.

Intern opportunities are everywhere (you just call up and get them for yourself), so all unis are pretty much the same in that regard.

Not sure what branches aren't available. Pretty sure you can do all of the usual suspects (aside from aero).

That is incorrect. The 5 year degree is equivalent to the old 4 year engineering degree they had at Melbourne. They are making you do an extra year of engineering for no reason

No, it's not incorrect. In the 3 year bachelor and the 1st year of masters, you complete all of the subjects you would in the full 4 year BEng, plus 1 or 2 more (can't remember the exact number). In the final year of masters you take a whole bunch of extra subjects that you wouldn't have taken in a bachelor. None of the subjects or their prerequisites have changed; you just do more of them.

I'm actually intrigued as to what facilities Monash Uni has (in relation to engineering), and if students actually are able to utilise them during their course and to what frequency?

Can't speak for the other streams, but Chemical eng is quality at UoM. First year is quite boring though, thank goodness I did Commerce!!!
