Chemistry and English tutors
« on: December 19, 2010, 07:51:15 pm »
Hi,
I was looking for tutors for chemistry and english, I'm aiming for a 45, 47 respectively.
I'm a very dedicated student, and although i screwed chem up really bad this year (C's on my tests, I got to a pretty crap school too, so the tests were probably easier than most other schools) I'm polishing off my skills so that before our first session, i'll hopefully know unit 1+2 very well.
As for english, I'm not bad, but i'm not great either.. I've never found it difficult to analyse a book, but when it comes to writing and structured formats, I could use help.
Looking at some of the guides on this forum, I thought "fantastic, i never knew this was how to write an issues analysis!" - so, my writing structures and formats could really use some oiling.
My plans for chemistry is to finish unit 3 - or as much as i can with a profound understanding, rather than an  little idea, so i can jump into practice exams in the 3/4th week of school (hoping to complete 45ish before the real mid-year.
I'm not sure how i'll go about things for english, perhaps read all my texts (or just 2 of them) and make chapter summaries.
If it helps, my texts are:
- Maestro
- the crucible
- the rug maker of mazar-e-sharif

Also, I was wondering whether anyone had Liz Fear's Contact details?

Look forward to hearing from you.

I Google searched her pretty thoroughly and couldn't find her contact details, sorry.

I'm happy to tutor you for English although I'll only be able to give you general advice for Reading and Responding because I haven't read your books. Which Context will you be doing?

I was told by a member here that my contexts are
The rugmaker...
and the crucible
Do you have MSN? Perhaps we could discuss over that - faster.

ALso, what exactly is context? All i see is "reading and responding" and "Creating and presenting"

Creating and Presenting is Context.

I'll PM you Liz Fear's contacts, some of my friends went there this year, so I'll try get it off them.

I should inform you that 45 and 47 in Chemistry and English are not that easy, so you should start off by polishing off your 1/2 as soon as possible. Probably review your gas laws, and any titration stuff you may have done (which by nature includes stoichiometry). Also reading each one of your English texts and answering any associated questions your school may have set.

You seem to want help in structured formats and such, so I think my course will be quite suitable for that. I teach fairly formulaic styles of writing so it sounds like it's similar to what you're looking for. The details are found here. Read my endorsements below my ad and you'll see people praising this formulaic approach to writing. I also go into how to prepare for English throughout the year so I can discuss those issues with you as well.

You say that you need some help with structure and format in your writing, shinny's lesson would be ideal for you as he goes through every essay type that you will encounter in the exam and he has a 'guide' so to speak on how to structure your paragraphs. I found it very helpful and i think you will as well :)
