Before anyone accuses Colin of arrogance, I need to say that he is an extremely frank person. If he is smarter than everyone else, he'll say that.

I know Colin personally; he is not an arrogant character as such, he is simply extremely frank about things.

Yeh...I hang out with him all the time at school; this is how he speaks.
But cmon...it's hilarious. I guess I'm just used to it, but he's a pretty awesome and decent person when you get to know him.

I'm sure he's a great guy once you get to know him, but the difference between frank and arrogant is very subjective. 90% of people would see that as arrogant.

Nah, it's only arrogant and pompous from our perspective. It might be hard to understand, but I don't think it's really arrogance on Colin's part - it's more a fact of his world, like how we consider an apple to be a fruit. Likewise it's his mini-essay is only pretentious from our perspective and not his.

I'm hoping it's real actually.
If it's a troll, that means some random typed that whole thing up for no reason, in which case: YOU NEED TO GET LAID.

Back to Colin - from the piece itself, that was blatantly arrogant - from our perspective.
But a knowingly arrogant person would be a lot more subtle about it, because they would know that people look down on arrogance (rightfully too!). To me this piece is way too frank and blatant to stem from Colin's apparent arrogance. I'll say this though; he is somewhat unaware of these...pragmatics so he would call a mentally ill person a 'retard' and so on - euphemism is not in his vocabulary

Edit: so I don't say he's arrogant in the sense he wants to put people down because he's 'better' than them; he'll just state the facts. So when reading/listening to him, take the words as they are and disregard what he could be implying - because Colin never implies.

Pretty much what Thushan says.  Furthermore, Colin knows that people are better than him at certain things - he just also happens to know that he's better than most people at many things too.

Just backing up what pretty much everyone who knows Colin is saying - as I was telling him on MSN after he told me he was confused about people calling him pretentious, you just need to understand his mode of thinking.  Live on the same wavelength, if you will.
