I've got chem and psych midyear exams

My plan is to focus on psych, because the concepts are easier to remember and understand than chem ones
2010: Biology
2011: English | English Language | Chemistry | Mathematical Methods (CAS) | Psychology

Chem, psych and bio, with chem + psych on the same day, the day after bio. Now, that's fun! Any advice? :)

How do you already know what subjects are going make up your top 4 (apart from english)?
I think he means that after a term or so, you have a fairly good idea of what subjects you are going to do well in for various reasons, so you may as well aim your time at something you have a chance at doing really well in.

yeah like luke said you should have a general idea of which subjects you're better at or like more after a term or so.

What if you feel equal? I have English and Psychology in Top 4. Out of Chemistry, Further and Methods (probable, might be spesh or uni psych somewhere in there in 2years time :P)..I need Chemistry to be in the Top 4 to look good for MBBS. That leaves me with Methods and Further. The whole point of Further is to get a 50...that leaves Methods in my bottom 2...that's bad :(..Maths has never been my worst subject :(

Well there is nothing wrong with feeling equal, however if you want to maximise your score, you are going to be a lot better off going for 4x 45's and 2x 35's than 6x 40's.
Afterall, the first scenario would give you an Aggregate of 187 whereas the second would only be 168...

How do you know you have Psych in your Top 4? Anything can happen, and it may come down to you hoping that you will be able to have a strong Top 4 if you do happen to stuff up on exams etc

As far as MBBS, I don't think Chem being in your Top 4 is going to drastically improve your chances if anything at all, the set goal of 35 (It is 35 yeah?) is just a prerequisite, it's not going to get you an interview if you had a crappy UMAT

Just go with the flow for this year, if you do well in Psych well then good for you, you'll have 2 out of 4 set, and you can decide half way through which subjects are going to have the best potential at getting a decent score!

Haha well good luck for Psych, we shall see by the end of the year :)
I spose in the end you have to think, would you rather have a place in Med with Chem as 6th or no Med and Chem Top 4 :P

Re: chem - Nah I just think it's kind of sad, Chem being the only prerequisite (yeah it's 35) and then end up landing it in my Bottom 2 :P

The fact that you've been hanging around on a VCE forum about 8 months before actually doing a vce subject tells me that you're going to be aiming alot higher than a 35.

It's alot easier to get a scaled score in chem/physics/spesh/methods/language, than it is to get a 45 in psych (which will scale down a tad?)

So don't be upset if you don't get a top 4 score in psych, i don't know why you'd make that an aim. That's like saying if you got a 48 in psych and 50 in everything else you will be disappointed.
vce: english, methods, spesh, chemistry, physics, geography.

Re: chem - Nah I just think it's kind of sad, Chem being the only prerequisite (yeah it's 35) and then end up landing it in my Bottom 2 :P

Not to be overly presumptuous, but it's highly likely that Chem won't be in my top 4. I've got Methods and Eng/Lit already, plus spesh and latin are likely to scale to 50 (hopefully :P). Similar to what Taiga said, it's possible that you'll get a great score in Chem, but you're other subjects are just so good that it doesn't count. You're in year 11, you shouldn't be thinking too much about it. Try hard in everything and see how it goes. Most people don't have their year 11 3/4 in the top 4 so don't worry about it if that happens. If I get over 45 in Chem, one of my 3/4s in year 11 won't even be in my top 6. :P Have fun with your subjects, don't think so much about the numbers and how it fits with your ATAR just yet.

I'll also point out that Uni subjects are taking a huge directional change in 2012. It's basically impossible to get 5.5. From what I remember, they take the average of your top 4 scores and 10% of that will be one of your bottom two subjects. It's pretty dud to be honest...
