I just clicked on the Water Cooler subforum - it's practically the same as it was earlier, except you just need to click on 'back' to go to the VCE forum.

TrueLight, this isn't something to get carried away with.

My only complaint is the post count and karma count being off but other than that epic epic stuff and I agree that it would help new users from interstate integrate.

We're looking into tying them all together, but it's going to be very very difficult and I can't make those demands of the CTO's time until we're making enough money to justify him treating it like a full time job.

I am confused... so now... if I post in water cooler, it won't pop up in VN's "unread posts since last visit"? People will have to go to AN to see if there were any water cooler posts?

Yeah, that's the annoying bit.

Also, *everything* in water cooler now comes up as "unread posts since last visit" in AN.

AND... (I promise I'm not trying to be more annoying than usual =P) but if the point is to draw in the interstates... shouldn't you integrate *all* the water coolers? Because even though you now have a nice and full national water cooler, your HN, SN and WN water coolers are still completely empty.

I think new traffic to AN will go something like:
eg. HSC student: "AN home page --> Click HSC --> Look through HN forum --> See it's dead --> Leave."

People are unlikely to go to the national forum unless they have a reason to... new traffic to this site is going to be completely oblivious to the awesomeness that is the water cooler, and thus not look at the AN forum, and thus (as previously alluded to) miss out on the awesomeness that is the water cooler.

I have had a very long day, but please tell me I am making sense...
well... at least as much sense as usual...

You could click the VN Watercooler and check for the highlighted titles?

Oh shiet. Check who is the VN Guru up in here. Considering that virtually all of my posts are in the Water Cooler, I hope the post count thing gets rectified soon  ;D

Mmm... as a national mod, I already check HN and AN's activities anyway (YES, I ACTUALLY DO WORK... I'M NOT COMPLETELY USELESS), so it doesn't bother me so much ... but I do see how water cooler may now go unread by many members.

Mr CTO, is there any way to have the same Water Cooler in every state site as well as the national one, and have them all update simultaneously when someone makes a post?

I can tell you as CEO that this is impossible for the near future and we have already looked into it and doing this would be a -massive- undertaking and we'd have to rewrite SMF's code...

Er yeah I'm gonna go through and change all the other boards in other states to redirects too :P

Thanks for reminding me -_-

Having read this now, I don't know how this ramped up so quickly. I do feel as if TrueLight was slightly victimised considering how quickly a few questions resulted in sarcastic and denigrating remarks back at him, but I do agree with the admins that such complaints were a bit minor. Still, I think people need to consider that change is something people generally don't like regardless of its justification. People will inevitably complain, so it's up to the mods and admins to deal with these, sort out the ones which are actually constructive from the ones which are reactive and then go from there. However, regardless of whether such complaints are useful or not, denigrating our own users isn't going to achieve anything - particularly when the whole point of this was to create a more welcoming community from those interstate to begin with.

I know that enwiabe is obviously very excited about the new site, but I feel as if the general consensus is a bit 'meh' because we haven't really gained anything from it as of yet, yet we have to change the way we use it. For example, now I have to bookmark each individual recent unread topics page and go through each - quite tedious from my point of view. While it's only a few clicks, efficiency is something that should be built in by design. You don't see something successful such as Facebook fragmenting its features into multiple websites and expect people to visit each separately. So basically, I agree with the fact that the sites should all be integrated, but I guess the reason behind why it initially wasn't, together with the reason why it hasn't been implemented as of yet has already been dealt with so it's besides the point. Anyway, I think as someone who doesn't have a direct interest in AN, this had to be said. I kind of got the feeling that others were very quickly intimidated to post in this thread and possibly even ever give any further criticism given that within just an hour of TrueLight posting, he was already being hammered at by two admins.

It wasn't so much that he was complaining. It was the way he was complaining. As if we should all stop what we're doing and change everything back because it takes him an extra half a second to click through to some of the posts.

I politely explained the reasoning the first time. When he persisted with his selfish, childish "but it annoys ME" complaints I got a bit snappish, and I do not regret it in the slightest.
