Look Both Ways

Sadly, Look Both Ways is being farewelled as a year 12 VCE text, which is a shame really, seeing as it was a wonderfully intricate film brimming with symbolism and meaning.  Anyhow, I was wondering if any year 11 students were doing Look Both Ways this year?

True true!
I still have a study guide for the film from Senior Student Resource Centre but I don't want to throw it away since someone would want to have it for free. Except I don't know who.

Although it's a shame for many texts, in fairness, it is part of a 4 year rotation policy. The texts will reappear later :)

As distasteful and boring as this film would be to watch in a cinema, it was a great VCE English text.. a really good text beaming with plenty of things to analyse and write about.

Surely I cant be the only person who found this movie epically boring and depressing.

And the way the teachers made something out of nothing.

"Oh, they show the birds flying, lets spend a whole week investigating what this could mean."

"Oh, they're playing music in the background, this surely has great significance, here are the lyrics!"

"Oh, they all cry when its raining, but why are they crying? It's breaking the drought!"

"Oh, Meryl is an 'artist'. She spills paint on pieces of paper, what could this mean?"

"Oh, Nick takes photos, he has cancer."

"Oh, Andy probably hates his life because he's in such a crap movie."

...I really did hate that movie with passion. Writing about it was like...trying to write an essay about Look Both Ways.

I watched our new film text for next year and it seems like an improvement. Hopefully I find it easier to write about it.

The seemingly useless activities you stated here are actually what make Look Both Ways such a great VCE English text. Yes, it's utterly boring (in most instances), but it's a movie with substance and depth, and that's all I care about when it comes to writing an essay about/on it.

This reminds me of meaningful French films which are not about love. Would love to watch Look Both Ways one day. For some reason, your list of sarcastic comments has persuaded me.

I died inside a little every time I had to see Meryl's clothing. And that really painfully awkward sex scene.

Thank goodness for Andy. He was the best part of LBW.

I loved Look Both Ways, it was the only thing I enjoyed about English for my entire schooling!

I found Meryl's demeanour, character and appearance awfully painful, however Andy and Nick were quite funny in some parts. For a movie that clearly had a budget of about $100 it was quite a good watch.

My favourite character was definately Andy. His random outbursts were a highlight and all he would just ask random questions "Ever got any one pregnant?".
Overall it wasn't too bad a film, just the over analysis made it a bit tedious but there was plenty to use if you could remember a few techniques.
