looking at this, costargh, sorry about your loss. You should consider what category to apply for, as you can only apply for once for a particular incident.

1) for long term effects, such as the loss of your grandparents, should be listed in SEAS. these require an impact statement as well as documents where required. Talk to your careers advisor about these. SEAS application may allow you to be admitted in a course where you do not have high enough ENTER or do not meet the minimum score on prerequisites. Accounting for last year's loss should definitely be noted in SEAS as this can be used to appeal for your MM score.

2) for disadvantages in year 11/12, such as looking after your grandmother (excessive responsibilities), applies to anything that is not long-term. These help you in a similar manner.

Unlucky you!

One other question, can I apply for scholarships like "Monash University Scholarships for Excellence and Equity"
under the "Difficult family circumstances" category
here are the examples that might be applicable that they have on the site:
Some examples of long-term difficult family circumstances are:

    * carer responsibilities (ill children, parent, siblings etc.) <----- I wasn't a 'carer'... I just helped
    * death of parent/guardian/relative/close friend/classmate/teacher
    * excessive family responsibilities <----- although I wouldn't call them excessive

I don't know.. I think Ill apply anywya

yes. if you apply for SEAS you will automatically be considered for all scholarships offered by Monash.
not sure about special considerations tho

So theres a difference between SEAS and special consideration?

"SEAS application may allow you to be admitted in a course where you do not have high enough ENTER or do not meet the minimum score on prerequisites."

Do you have any evidence to support that?
I just thought it was for ENTER only.

I believe that is the case, but I'm not exactly sure... I haven't seen any materials that say so either ways...
maybe that varies depend on individual universities' policies. you might want to contact UoM or Monash directly to see their policies

Does this mean that you basically have to perform badly to be considered? I can't say that I have been doing badly this year, but I think I could have done better on some SAC's and stuff. Studying for SAC's at hospital is a really inefficient way of studying. Like... does me gettin A+ on a mid-year exam in effect make me too high performing to be considered to have been affected?
I think it just means that they want you to describe how exactly the event disadvantaged you. So basically, the adverse effects that the event had on your life/study.

Also, just apply. It doesn't hurt. The worst that can happen is that they won't accept the application.

Yeh thanks. I just think 'impact' is open to interpretation. My marks are/were still good but they might have been even better, or my study/life balance would have been better otherwise and would have had a less stressful year 12 etc

I'm applying for a few catrgories and the evidence I have is letter from primary school principal and high school, I am also getting co ordinators and social worker from centrelink that hadle my case.

You can show other things how it affected your results, like I have, by getting attendance records amd in your persoanl impact statement just say how you could not study or perform as well as you would have liked to.

Special consideration just applies to year 12 I think. However, SEAS has to be a lifetime thing, such as a dependent family member, abusive living environment etc that has not only affected high school but also primary school in some cases.

You need evidence to supprt all the categories that you apply for and have a personal impact statement (of 2,500 words max).

Firstly, sorry about your loss.

Yeh that would be great if you could find out some info on the process or whatever... anything she knwos about it would be appreicated.

Mao: I spoke to careers lady. She was helpful, gave me a booklet thingo to read. And Im gonna see her again later this week cause I had to rush off to do a SAC. From what I have read special consideration relates to year 11/12, while SEAS applies to longer term things (ie. more than year 11 and 12). I only had things happen in year 11 and 12 so I think I will be applying for special consideration. And from what I have read, you must have met the requirements in a course to gain access even with special consideration... but I have decided Im gonna put some silly courses at the top and see if they let me in... I cbf explaining now. maybe another day lol

lol; VCAT. Getting confused with Legal Studies?

I always thought Special Consideration was a part of SEAS. I know you can apply for both Special Consideration and Access and Equity, if that helps. Those are the two sub-categories of SEAS to my knowledge (which is limited on this matter)

ahaha yeh I always say VCAT (victorian civil and administrative tribunal) instead of VTAC because of legal studies.

Pretty irritated.

Went to get my statement of support filled in and signed yesterday. Head of Commerce said she'd speak to someone about it (about procedures and policies etc). Came back to me today...
Quoted from Head of Commerce, passing on a message from the Deputy Principal of Studies
Quote
Basically it's not worth it. Your grades this year haven't been bad enough and therefore we can't fill in your statement of support.

This is in direct contrast to the Careers Counselors view that regardless of my marks I should apply for special consideration because although my marks have been good, they could have been better.

So sick of my school. They are a hindrance on my education and opportunities. Special consid probably wouldn't have done anything for me anyway but the schools attitude agitates me.
