Are there any solid reasons as to why people think his tutoring is bad?
HIS NOTES =/= HIS TUTORING! (not entirely of course)

Cos frankly i'd rather be tutored by someone who has 15years+ experience than a student walking out of VCE with excellent ATARs/individual subject scores with 0 credentials.
Jack has been tutoring for longer than a decade and he has a very (VERY) solid knowledge of the course.

There are a lot of less intelligent people and more intelligent people that go to the tutoring. While his notes may not be 'the cream of the crop' they are exceptionally good in summarising and enforcing a stable foundation to the course.

No he's not a 'I got tutored by _____ so im gonna get 50' type of tutor, he simplifies the course and tries to make it interesting, to motivate and ultimately bring out the best of the abilities of many students.

Of course his tutoring does not work for everyone; we all know that many people go to a tutor just to keep their ego and pretend to be progressing academically, which is in fact the same that occurs to individuals attending his tutoring.

Please, don't talk down about a tutor until you've actually been tutored by him.

ps. not to mention his tutoring is so dam cheap (10$/hr) and the quality of his tutoring and notes demonstrate how he's not taking financial advantage of each student (hint hint) and tries his best to teach as many students as he can for a better future.

Um his tutoring is 20 last time I checked?
I went once, and I DO NOT GO TO A PRIVATE SCHOOL, quite a low-scoring school in fact. I'll say that Jack reiterated what I knew, and I don't find his jokes that funny, more of a marketing ploy to suck in teens to go to a hip tutor.  His tutoring is good if you're a maths/science person who finds it hard to do problem solving and only learns by rote-memory. For example in chem, though you may rote learn concepts sometimes you need to be able to apply such knowledge to an unfamiliar situation. He kind of helps breakdown what you've rote learned to give you a better understanding but its subtle. He won't give you an amazing breakthrough in chem if that;s what you're looking for. It caters more to asians or ppl having trouble extending their thinking-process.

$20 for 2 hours, therefore $10 for 1 hour, therefore (10$/hr). That working out gets you 2 marks right there.

I honestly don't know what to say.

Back on topic, jasoN- says it all.

At what point did I say you weren't entitled to?

If you're aiming high, you don't go a tutor that teaches 50+ people (ie. jack)
get a private tutor.
Don't forget his tutoring is 'come whenever'; there is no signing up and a set amount of students to teach - this is why many other tutors differ from him.
He just cannot teach higher up techniques to people that he's only seen for one lesson and have no clue what their capabilities and potentials are, if you needed more help you simply ask him before/after a lesson and he will gladly help.
This is why many people go to his tutoring, when they are in doubt they can come to him expecting a reiteration of the course and not getting confused and hence he is successful.

I'm not gonna post any more cos this topic is redundant, he's a good tutor, not the best, but his pay-rate says all.
If you don't want to go to his tutoring, then don't.
But don't put down his tutoring methods simply cos it doesn't cater for you.

case in point - go there if you want to know what is tutoring is like. People's opinions (including mine) is completely subjective.

lol well the typical maths ones :). Not saying it in a negative sense, just, me and most of my friends were you know brought up by our parents doing things out of the textbook, repeating systematic questions in order to improve understanding. So in the end our learning process becomes dominated by this. Jack helps with those kinds of people who forget how to apply the knowledge they have and step back from just doing similar questions all the time.

When Jack's students forget things in the middle of a SAC/exam, they hear Jack's voice in the back of their head and the answer immediately comes to them.

This is because he's so fkn repetitive and spends a whole lesson teaching how to find the 'median'.

About his jokes, you'll get sick of hearing the same ones at your 2nd lesson. Recycled.

Oh, and if you're unlucky and he knows your name, you'll be asked to answer questions every 2 minutes.
