Hey guys just wondering if anyone had notes on the movie 'The Castle'. This is the Australian film about a guy trying to defend his house from corporate takeover.

I watched it and found fairly minimal information on the language used. Anyone out there watched the movie and can contribute?

i watched the movie in englang class this year, but the handwritten notes I have are minimal.

all i remember was that there's a lot that can be said about the phonetics and lexicology used by the kerrigans.
eg. for phonetics, there's diphthongs, high rising terminal (HRT) at the end of statements, broad australian accent, elisions with certain words, coalescence such as 'wouldja'
as for lexicology, the kerrigans use slang such as 'tell him he's dreaming' and 'fair dinkum' (that's all i can remember)

try comparing and observing the differences in the language used by the kerrigans and language used by the lawyers and higher authority.

Yeah i've noted most of that, though our class hasn't covered any of unit 3. I think we're mostly looking for the role of language and how it expresses identity etc (sociolinguistics?) , rather than the raw language features. But i think the differing uses of language between the kerrigans vs lawyers is good.

“We are all alone, born alone, die alone, we shall all someday look back on our lives and see that, in spite of our company, we were alone the whole way. I do not say lonely -- at least, not all the time -- but essentially, and finally, alone. This is what makes your self-respect so important, and I don't see how you can respect yourself if you must look in the hearts and minds of others for your happiness.”

This is quite an outdated thread, but if you'd like, I can share
with you some aspects of Australian English demonstrated in
that movie.. (had to do a lot relating to it for my holiday homework,
and I have watched it twice)
