So I found this place where you can get stats on peoples preferences. http://www.vtac.edu.au/appstats/appstats-ug-2010.html

And for first prefs at monash uni:

Engineering - 311

Science - 494

Commerce - 211

..

Medicine/Surgery - 1832

That's crazy competition..

I found it pretty interesting to look at these statistics

For MBBS, that's insane considering how many actually get in...  The amount of broken hearts tomorrow, it's not funny.

There is some intense competition in a lot of things this year especially Science and Arts at Melbourne.
Must have been the extra intake that had everyone going for it.

With all these apps, I think my mid year app will be quite a mystery now since I was considering them two.
ATAR 2010: 84.70

Physical Education: 40
Further Maths: 38
Economics: 36
Design & Technology: 35
English: 34
Visual Communication and Design: 34

Yeah, I'm sort of surprised with arts. A lot of people I know didn't like the melbourne model and therefore chose to apply elsewhere.

Interesting, Science at UoM had 1550 (2009) > 1978 (2010) first prefs. So, those new places offered aren't going to lower the ATAR clearly-in by that much, true?

Yes you can say that, people who obtained the clearly in will get in, it will be harder for those who couldnt get the clearly in mark.

Also, any rough idea on how many students does UoM accept for the science department?
