When will we know our timetables?
Do we get to choose our lecture times and stuff?
and how many days a week does a typical student attend uni?

On the 31 January starting at 10 am, you will be able to construct your entire timetable on the student portal.  You can either create it from scratch or let the system "try" to create a class-free timetable for you and then you can move things around.  You will be able to choose everything - lectures, tutes, labs and seminars (if applicable) based on the times they are offered.

How many days a week a student attends uni depends on the course they are doing.  Arts and Commerce students may be able to get days off but biomed and science students on the other hand will be extremely lucky in first year.

P.S.  I don't think biomed students can have a day off in first year based on their contact hours...  But I'm not sure.  Russ will be able to inform you.

Couple of weeks before uni starts, from memory.

Yeah, the old system auto-allocated everyone, but now you pick classes from the available times. Be warned that they fill up fast, so get in quick!

5 days a week for most students; 4 if they're incredibly lucky and those 4 days will probably be packed. Commerce and arts usually have about 2-3 days worth, but because of timetabling, it's generally spread out over 4 days.

EDIT: Biomed will be just over 20 hours a week, most likely. So 5 days a week of class.

I have 12 hours this semester and I have 5 days of uni - you're not getting 20+ hours in 4 days

I am thinking maybe to do Calculus first, because then it could help out with Physics in Semester 2?

Since you're doing biomed, you're going to do Physics 2: Life Science and Environments, which uses pretty much no calculus from what I can remember.

Did you enjoy Physics 2: Life Science and Environments? Much harder than vce physics?

btw, you only need to do Physics 2 if you did vce physics 3 & 4, otherwise you do physics for biomed.

I personally enjoyed the concepts and such a lot more than Physics 1 and VCE Physics, mainly due to the fact it was linked to human body stuff. It's harder than VCE Physics in the sense that you need to grasp the fundamental concepts a lot better to understand what you're doing, and it's less calculations, more concepts based.

Sounds good. I found vce physics to be extremely dry. It was definitely my least favourite subject.
Hopefully I'll remember it well enough to do well in Physics 2: Life Science and Environments..
Aaah that Physics was quite enjoyable, lots of new concepts and topics and not too difficult :)

Are any new biomed students able to add subjects (other than the core ones)? I still can't do it :( Nothing comes up when I put in the codes, or try any of the search options.

Did you have any luck yet Stonecold?

Have you tried searching general terms like 'Biology' and 'Chemistry'? I typed in anatomy for mine and stuff came up even though the subject titles didn't have the word anatomy in them...

Nothing under "Biology" or "Chemisty" or anything else I've tried. It's only letting me enrol in cores, and breadth subjects :(

Just search for nothing (Ie leave text box empty)

Then a new section appears below the search area, this allows you to change things like maths subjects and physics etc...

Should be able to take it from there? (the key is the first part...)
VCE: Biology 42 (43.23)|Chemistry 42 (45.88)|English 43 (42.87)|Physics 45 (47.07)| Maths methods 40 (45.14)|Specialist maths 34 (41.70)

Woohoo, Thanks!
Of course! All I had to do is search for nothing... Very Zen.

lol yeah, I expected to see every subject when I did it as searching for anything yielded no results. Then that little toolbar thing came up and I was able to advance to the next stage of the intelligence test.

You definitely deserve to be in biomed! :D Discovering that little trick is basically the equivalent of finding the chambers of secrets as far as I'm concerned. THANK YOU!
