Two questions.
« on: January 19, 2011, 03:26:34 pm »
1. The 2011 ATAR clearly-in for Arts/Law at Monash Uni is at 98.40. On the website, it says this is for a CSP place. Does anyone know around what the requirement would be for a full-fee placement? Or do we have no choice in terms of this..?

2. I am from an 'underrepresented school', so how does this benefit/impact my application?

Thanks guys, any help greatly appreciated. (+karma!) :P

You are eligible for SEAS category 7.

The benefit is that the required ATAR that you need is lowered although I'm not sure how this works :S

Here's UoM's list of underrep'd schools

Here's Monash's list of underrep'd schools

I don't think you're allowed to have a FULL FEE place in an undergraduate course. It's either CSP or nothing..

under rep school DEFINITELY will benefit your application. A girl from my work got 90 point something atar and got into biomed melb with JUST that SEAS category. So it can help heaps. Not so sure about how much it can help at monash, but at melb, they take it very seriously.

1. generaly the leeway is about 5 atar points, so 93.40 would be the mark (or thereabouts)
2. full fee paying is like 40,000 a yhear, consider it carefully.
3. underrepresented school has nothing ot do with uni placements unless u apply for seas, i think
4. odnt bother karmaing me, use it on someone esle.. (stonecold if u ask me:)

There is no such thing as full-fee places for Australian citizens anymore. It's just CSP.

2009-2010: VET Multimedia | Methods CAS | English | Legal Sudies | National Politics | Accounting | VET IT

2011-2013: BBIS at Monash - IBL Stream

Semester 1: Principles of Accounting & Finance | Computer Programming | Business Information Analysis | Intro. to Business Information Systems

Is that for just undergrad or for everything?

Australian citizens cannot be offered full fee places for undergraduate degrees. They may be offered full fee places for postgraduate degrees

There's also no rule for SEAS, it depends entirely on the strength of your written application. It's not a black and white +2 ATAR points

Wow thanks for all the help guys!

How do you know if your SEAS application has been successful? Or do you just have to wait until first round offers like everyone else?

I'm not sure whether applying for SEAS with the 'underrepresented schools' category will make much difference.. there are hundreds of schools on the list.

I thought this too, yet it helped some of my friends HEAPS! 8 ATAR points is quite significant. Although it changes from uni to uni, from year to year and from course to course. However, don't underestimate it. It can definitely help you a lot. But still work like you don't have it to give yourself the best chance of getting in!

I dont think underrepresented school helps out that much to be honest. I am from an underrep. school and didnt get into arts/law while still being fairly close to the clearly in. To be sure you'd need to get a little over the clearly in as competition is obviously improving with this course.

ATAR: 97.45

2011: Bachelor of Arts Monash University
2012: Bachelor of Commerce?? Please!!

Hey Andy, did you apply for a SEAS application? That may have been the issue? :S

check how many kids from your school in the time youve been there have gone onto study at Monash and/or Monash Arts/Law.

At an underrepped school your problem will be getting A+s for your SAC marks. Youre gonna have to be rank 1 in most subs.

It's not a really, really underperforming school.. it's just average I guess. A fair number of people get into Monash each year - none have gotten into any Law courses as far as I know, but a lot of them have gotten into Med at Monash (and QLD uni's) over the years.

Yeah I think so... I think you just needed to tick a box or something like that for underrep. school

I think Melb gives more pref to SEAS people than Monash. That's just based on who I've seen get in at both unis below the clearly in with only under rep school SEAS.
