I only deactivated one month before mid years and two months before end of years. Deactivating now is a bit extreme. There's really no need, unless you're on it 24/7.

Hells yeah, this is a great idea. I did it for about a month around exam time last year. I hadn't thought about this. I'm gonna deactivate now and only activate again on march 31st (seems like a nice day to do it).

A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.

If you aren't one for deactivating it and only use it on the odd occasion than I guess you will be fine.
However, if you are willing to keep to a minimal use of it and use it as primarily as a small reward for doing a fair bit of study or to relieve some stress than I guess it is okay.
It entirely depends on what type of person you are though.

Meh, I was going to deactivate, but Facebook's pretty boring anyway, so I'll just ignore it.

Deactivating isn't the best way to go about it. If you love going on facebook, starving yourself of it would probably bring about negative effects to your studies more than anything. Rather, just work on your self-discipline and limit yourself on facebook. Not only does this decrease the distraction, the boost in self-discipline can help across tonnes of aspects of your life too.

Easy to say, very bloody difficult to do. But it helps moreso than just removing it from your life.

I disagree, last time I deactiviated for the first couple of days it sucked and I wanted to go on but after a week I didn't even have the slightest urge to go on. After my exams I didn't activate for another week or two because I didn't feel a need to.

btw, I didn't/don't deactivate i just change my pwd to something i can't remember then reset it when I needa go back.

Rather than going to extremes to deactivate facebook, maybe there's like a timer lock that measures a certain amount of time that you can go on before it blocks the site for the rest of the night? Sort of like when you're using public libraries... but only for specific sites...

I deleted my FB! (it takes 2 weeks of not signing in after requesting deletion). I win!

No need to do it! I averaged 2 hours a night on it and still went well. Just ensure that you don't fall into the trap of studying whilst being on facebook - make sure these are separate events.
