[99.40] Tutoring in mathematics and physics for SE suburbs.
« on: March 09, 2011, 02:06:32 am »
Hi,

My name is James and I graduated from St. Leonard's College in 2008 with an ENTER score of 99.40. My studies scores were as follows:

(scaling is in brackets)

TOP 4
Physics - 46 (47.75)
Specialist Maths - 42 (49.29)
English - 45 (45.10)
Philosophy - 45 (46.27)

5th and 6th (10%)
Mathematical Methods - 38 (4.37) (studied in year 11)
UMEP Mathematics - 4.0

I currently study Engineering at University of Melbourne and want to offer my services to those studying VCE who need help with maths or physics. I feel like I have a lot to teach, having experienced VCE first hand a few years ago I understand how the workload can pile up sometimes and stress can become a factor. I like to offer a more open approach to the whole VCE experience, not just reciting text information or repeating what students already hear from their teachers. I can offer a hand when it comes to balancing subjects, while also getting down to the nuts of bolts of where students are having problems. I feel that examples is the best method of teaching, and solving problems on your own is the best way to learn. Nothing can substitute a first hand experience at tackling problems, but this is often the hardest part, and that is where I come in. I will go over theory, but make sure a student is confident at solving individual problems before moving on to the next topic. After all, when it comes to exam time, the crucial test of your understanding will be application of your knowledge to questions, not how well you can recite theory.

Having been studying Engineering the last few years, I have improved my handle on mathematics even though I finished VCE in 2008. I'm also glad to answer questions outside of tutoring hours, when I'm available, should a student feel the need. In short, I can offer a unique, friendly and interpersonal resource to students they cannot find with their teachers or textbooks.

If interested please contact via email at [email protected], as I do not check this site often at all. (I chose to advertise here when I remembered what a valuable resource this place was to me when I was in year 12.)
