SAC 2 Results

By this stage i assume most schools have done their second biology SAC, probably on enzymes.
I had mine today.
I think i went pretty well but my teacher is a very hard marker and theirs a few questions there could have been multiple answers.
Also he's almost bound to take a mark off for experimental design as perfection is very hard!
We'll probably get the results back within a fortnight
How's everyone else been tracking along? :)

I walked out with 5 minutes to go after looking over it pretty thoroughly, I think I might have done well...

Enzymes are organic catalysts (made out of protein).

The only thing I'm worried about is if that is a good enough definition :P.

LOL! They changed the way bio SACs are run, exam conditions right? There was way to much cheating last year...

Yeah it was exam conditions... bastards took up my only double free :P.

I don't think cheating would really be that necessary though Rohitpi, nothing in the SAC was that hard. Just required a little bit of revision.

If you want to be pedantic you could improve it by saying they're predominantly proteins but I doubt it's worth an entire mark

my teacher wouldn't give a full mark for that definition :S

Mainly because you've just defined a biological term with more biology jargon (i.e. catalysts). So yeh, you'd need to explain what it actually does or why it's significant. Then preferably give an example. These are just standard things you do in any subject for short answer.

if the question is just 1 mark and does not ask for an example, would you still give one?

Probably don't need to if you gave a perfect answer before that, but I'd still give it in case you didn't.

By what I heard last year, you guys got booklets giving you detailed explanations on how to answer each question

Mac.Rob's bio sac 2 is on next week

True shinny, but the question was only worth 1 mark, and our teachers always tell us how MHS students have this tendency to over-answer every question, so I just gave the basic definition.

Will see what I get :P.

Overanswering never lost anyone marks in an exam. Teachers can mark however they want though. But really it's the reason why MHS kids do well in exams. Most of us are good at cramming and regurgitating everything we know. It doesn't take much understanding and skill to blindly memorise and regurgitate everything you know about a topic, but it's not really against any rules so what tends to happen is that you get full marks for seemingly everything. Good strategy that. I attribute my BM score to this :P

Don't remember what I specifcally put but it contained:
Enzymes are biological catalysts.
Defined a catalyst -> chemical that speeds up a reaction, without itself being used up
It lowers activation energy
It's a type protein

Yeh, that should be enough. It's mainly the lowering activation energy without being used up part that they're looking for I think. Basically the definition of a catalyst; saying it is one isn't enough since that's jargon in itself.

Ahh well, I guess I got a 24 or 24.5/25 then :P. lol.

we didn't get that :S

i think i'll have lost that mark

i explained,
- was biological catalyst
- how it lowers activation energy and speeds up rate of reaction

- no example
-FORGOT to say it's not used up :( so pissed at myself.
and my teacher marks hard as, so i'll get 0/1 for that
