SAC 3!

Hi everyone,

school is fast approaching and so is the 3rd SAC! I know that mine is something related to homeostasis, chapter 5 of NoB but it is NOT a practical and then a write up.

Has anyone done something of this nature in the past, or know about what we might be getting in terms of structure. And how to study for it?

The teacher has told us that it is a 'second hand data' type SAC, where we get something to read and then we write/ answer questions. I have nooo idea how this could work, does anyone have tips/past experiences/common mistakes?

Thanks a lot! :D

Mine is next week, so stressed out right now.

It's going to be a test, 30 multiple choice + 20 marks worth of short answer questions.
PS: It is the most difficult SAC in Biology Unit 3&4 though.

Basically that means that it's likely you'll read a story about what happened during someone else's experiment, or what happens to regulate the body temperature of some kind of animal and then you'll be asked to explain it along with terms.

I never did a practical and then write up for any of my SACs.

Oh wow, good luck 34590! Our 4th SAC is a research type, which my teacher believes is the hardest. Its where you research something and then you get asked questions in the SAC about it :/

Thanks Mavisgibbons, that sounds really different to what i am used to! Would it have to be someone else's experiments or case studies? For example, someone with diabetes, etc? Do you think chapter 5 is enough study for the SAC or do you recommend anything else?
So, if you didn't do pracs then what did you do? And well done on your 50 :D

No, I definitely have 4 for each unit. My 4th one is a week after mid years.

Oh yeah case studies as well, that's kind of what I meant by the second example with the regulation of heat in an animal or whatever.  Some homeostatic system you need to interpret.  Just make sure you know the concepts for homeostasis and all of the common homeostatically regulated things you are likely to be asked about - like glucose, temperature, potentially hormones.  I am unfamiliar with what is in chapter 5!  Haha.  But I can tell you that you need to know about those kinds of cases and how they are regulated, as well as how to give a definition of negative feedback and how to explain a system in terms of stimulus response negative feedback models.  Make sure you have definitions of the key terms and know about the specific systems and how to generalise to any problems you might get and you'll be fine.

We always did tests!  We did some slideshow on immunity as well.  But usually tests :)

I think the 4th one for us is a research task, then a write up! Most probably Chapter 7 or 8 from NoB :)

And thanks a lot Mavisgibbons!

The 4th one is on Immunity, it can be a power point or poster, the teacher picks one
