So as the title says, what definitions would be worth remembering for the exams? Off the top of my head I have:

-Osmosis
-Homeostasis
-Negative Feedback
-Signal Transduction
-Apoptosis

Let's compile a list!  :D

I'm a little confused about this definition too... Is it the process of a signalling molecule attaching to a receptor, which signals the nucleus to code for new proteins... or is it a little more general?

The one which I have in my notes from back then is 'Signal transduction refers to the cascade of events which converts one kind of signal into another via a series of relay molecules, ultimately amplifying the signal.' Regardless of how you word it, the key components to the definition are:
1. Cascade of events or some way of indicating multiple steps occurring
(which leads to...)
2. Amplification of the original signal

Alternatively, have a look at the examiner's reports and just copy their definition. This should incorporate everything they expect though without being overly specific, since signal transduction is quite a general term.

do you also need to include that singal transductio happens after extracellular singalling molecule is detected by the cell

I guess you could. But then again, some signals are intracellular so I'd be hesitant to generalise once again. Not sure how picky they are. As I said, have a look at the examiner's report for what they expect. This question's been put on the exam multiple times - I seriously laughed when I saw it on the '08 exam.

Yeh. It's a pretty non-specific term...
