I feel so much stress in the 1st year of uni...

Hello all,

Not sure if i'm the only one who's feeling this.. but i'm so not motivated in University unlike VCE.

I'm a lot behind in my readings and there are not many weeks untill exams. Furthermore, my recent assignments disappoint me. I got a 16.4/20 for my latest assignment. It is still a HD, but for one of the question, there're 5 scales (excellent, good...poor etc) and i recieved the lowest scale.. a poor. I recieved a 2 out of 9 for that big question and i'm really down for that.. I totally under-estimated what the markers want.

For the other assignments, i barely touched a HD for one, and got a pretty good score for another with a 97%, but it's entirely because they're easy. I'm hopeing for HD for my units with around 85-90 average but not sure if i'm going to achieve it.. the reason i want those average is not simply a self-satisfaction.. but i MUST transfer at the end of year..

I really need motivation in University. :/

It's Funny how people say Uni is easier than Yr 12...... Prob if you want to just get over 50% but for a HD+ it definitely isn't.

Kinda Crushed for my physics as well.... Did so much preparation for my MST and only dropped a mark, and when i got our assignment back yesterday, i've only gotted 12/15 due to some really simple mistakes, which is over 2% lost already..... It completely negates the amount of work I did for my MST...fml

Lose the 100% or nothing mindset, because anything over 80 is very good

yeah I had this 100% or nothing mindset at the start of the year, and now in 3/4 of my subjects that isnt even possible haha. It's not like vce where dropping marks can bring you down heaps of study scores, because in uni now I feel pretty comfortable with aiming for 80% + in all my subjects
vce: english, methods, spesh, chemistry, physics, geography.

However, mostly psychotic from the look of things.

Edit: Regarding the OP, 80+ is a commendable effort. I'm not a frequent HD student in my course so my envy is with you all.

You aren't struggling at all. Although I take what you are saying seriously, lots of people go to uni and barely pass their first year or outright fail, your 'barely scraping a HD' doesn't count as being a big problem. However, I do worry about the mindsets of people who are disappointed with what is by any standards a good mark. I also wonder what kind of course requires a 90 average to be eligble for admission?

Okay I forgot to comment on the OPs problem:

Don't stress too much on maintaining a HD average for transferring (unless you're transferring into biomed or something) most faculties want at least a 65 average (I successfully transferred with a 69 average) If you're already averaging HD don't stress so much about getting 95+ in your subjects.

Yeah.  I'd say anything over 65* is good.  80+ is like god-like.  Averaging 80+ is beast.

*Unless if you're aiming for like the best internship or something, then perhaps I can retract that comment.

^ Is this also depending on uni? Like, I imagine Latrobe or Swinburne compared to monash or melbourne wouldn't be too great, and I heard that the G8 unis consider our Ds to be a C.
