EPI help

Hey just a quick clarifing question for my EPI...

I'm going to do an experiment where you measure the stress/strain of a rubber band. I'm planning on attaching the rubber band in a loop around a pole and attaching weights using hooks on the bottom - if i do this, do I have to take into consideration that the rubber band is a loop and so there is essentially double the cross-sectional area holding it up? or does it not change anything?
