If you put in the hard work, be well prepared, and don't stress, a 90+ score is well achievable

Not too difficult. With my subjects I could get averages of 38 in my top 4 and 25 in my bottom two and get 90. Considering the fact that I already have a 43 sealed up, I could average 37 in my top 3 this year... or if I were to get 30 in my bottom two (quite achievable) I'd just have to average about 36 in my top three this year.

I suppose degrees of difficulty are all relative though.

Sometimes depends on your subjects, I would say to pull straight fourth scaled scores in humanities would be a lot harder than getting 33-35 in the maths science subjects, but if you put in enough effort you should be able to get it.

I used to undermine an atar score of 90 but once you get to uni you realize that a lot of people with 85+ scores will actually be near topping your classes

90 is quite easy  to achieve with your scores in the mid to high 30's ( even without forties) ( if you are science, maths subjects)

Ancient Persian Proverb; " I Wept because i had no Shoes, until i saw a man with no feet!"

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me -- and there was no one left to speak for me.

Massively editing post...

In short, yes, 90 is hard to achieve. Lots of people dismiss this, but the reality is that for every person our age who scores 90+, 9 won't. Even 80's incredible.

That said, 90 is definitely a possibility if you work hard and get lucky. :) Do your best - try not to focus on the score. I used to be a complete perfectionist back in VCE, but really, anything that'll get you into your course is fantastic. You don't need a 99.95, a 95 or a 90 to be intelligent. You are who you are. VCE doesn't change that. That's something that quickly becomes apparent once you realise that no one really cares about your ATAR anymore - heck, I'm going to go to a university where almost noone outside the person in charge of Australian admissions even knows what an ATAR is.

Best of luck :)

the answer is no.
anyone can achieve 90+ with hard work, i know people who haven't been smart at all getting around there with work and even higher, and others if they are smart can get it with very minimal work. it depends, but the answer is definitely no.
