Need Eulers rule help!

Ok, i am really struggling with this concept.

I need help with those step size euler sums, like for eg:


With steps 0.01 find an appropriate value of (y) at (x)=0.5 if (dy/dx)= cos(inverse) X and y=0 when x=0.

How do they expect us to go from x=0 to x=0.5 when you are taking steps of 0.01? Thats like 50 steps!!! Or maybe i have just misinterpretated the concept.

They probably just expect you to use a calculator. That question is from the Essential book isn't it? It tells you how to make a program for Euler's method (and I think Mao has a ti89 program on his blog somewhere).

Yeh I think my teacher last year said they'll only ever expect you to do maybe 5 steps max (and that's pushing it).

Damn my teacher didnt mention this. Which other sections are there that require specific programs? I dont wanna go in to a spesh calc exam only to find a question i cant do cuz i dont have a program.

I don't think they'll make you do many iterations for this. I highly doubt VCAA wants to assess your ability to use a CAS program. They'd probably ask you to take 3~5 steps, and even that's pushing it.

but if you want a program for TI-89, you can find that on the resources thread [follow the links]
To the best of my knowledge, there is no other parts that require this amount of computational power.
