DNA Sac?

Hey guys

really worried about my DNA Sac tomorrow
if anyone has done it, would be great if they could share how/what to study for it besides the obvious stuff in the textbook.
Just any random stuff that my teacher may test me on :S

Be able to draw a nucleotide from the parts (understand the differences between the bases and between Deoxyribose and ribose) given to you in the data book. Don't forget A-T are 2 & G-C are 3. (H bonds)
Understand the bonding within the double helix, and the meaning of antiparallel, 3' and 5'.
Be aware of the negatively charged phosphate groups and how we use this in electrophoresis. It wouldn't hurt to understand some more applications of DNA.
Just back from spending the year at Oxford. Now onto final year Monash MBBS.

Know where the phosphate, sugar and base all join to each other to form a H20 molecule.
Know what a purine is (double ringed) and pyramidine (single ring).
Undertand how to intepret DNA profiles from gel electrophoresis.
Know the fundamental differences between RNA and DNA in their functions and structure.
Know that uracil is in RNA instead of thymine.

We just had ours, don't sweat it you should be fine :)

@Jane you have to know the structure for RNA as well? its not in the textbook D:

So from my quick reading of the study design, it doesn't look like we need to know that much about RNA

+1, and uracil isn't on the data book, so RNA is a real minor issue in chem

We had a fair bit on our SAC, but they did give us some info about it and then made us answer RNA questions. Might be helpful to know just in case, but probably not necessary... :)

ah k, thanks!
just one more thing, our SAC will also cover Aspirin
so are there any major things you need to know other than the reaction pathways?
e.g. what relevance cold water has when creating aspirin in a lab? (if it has any)

I would say it is to instruct the cells to make a specific protein that determine biological traits.
