And for question 5b iii: i got like 0.73 grams i think around there

Uh oh, I got around 0.3g. I might have screwed it though because for some reason I didn't seem too confident on it. I think it seemed to easy to be true and then I stuffed it D:

For the m/z=29 question, do you reckon you'd still get the mark if you wrote C2H5+?

For the m/z=29 question, do you reckon you'd still get the mark if you wrote C2H5+?

I personally would give you the marks because to me you still have a clear understanding of what has happened, and importantly you remembered the + sign.  IMO, it is rather implicit that  C2H5=CH3CH2.  It could not possibly be anything else.  There is no ambiguity.

That having been said, you never know how VCAA goes with these types of things, but I would be confident on the mark.  :)

did we need to give an example of the actual dilution, or would mentioning that you must dilute it by istelf be sufficient.

I did the same, and 08 and 10 assessment reports say that C2H5O+ is accepted in their respective questions, so I don't see why ours wouldn't.

Do you think if I wrote 128ppm for short answer 3a they will accept it instead of 130ppm?

Yeah 128 is actually a better answer than 130, so I doubt they will take a mark off for it. They might even only accept 128!  :o

I actually don't think they'll accept 130ppm, because the point at 12,000 was obviously to the left of the line marking for 130ppm. I said 128ppm, but I think they'll accept anything from 125-129ppm. However if I were the assessor, I would not give a mark for 130ppm.

I'm pretty sure they won't, but I'd wait for confirmation - but this was a reasonable source...

I think it's important to give an example - they want a practical application imo.
I think the state for sulfuric acid acting as a catalyst is important, because we specifically do need concentrated sulfuric acid for it to function well as a catalyst.
On reconsidering, 129ppm is the most accurate answer for caffeine content. I am sure they will accept at least +/-1ppm, probably 2.
Updating solutions now to include calculation questions
