I was reading through the VTAC guide which said that your current student number is your VTAC id and I assumed that my birthdate was the pin but I couldn't get in. What did I do wrong.

Yes.  Your VTAC login ID is your student number.

The default password is Date-Month.

So if you were born in 4 January 1993, it would be 0401.

EDIT:  Are you applying for a mid year transfer or are you applying with the intention of studying next year?

MyInfo right now is currently for non year 12s who currently want to apply for mid year entry into a course administered by VTAC.

If you're planning to study next year, applications open on 1 August at 9am.

The most VTAC could do is to lock your IP out if you've had too many unsuccessful logins.  But that method is usually reserved for online banking and the like, not VTAC.  So I highly doubt anything bad would happen.
