SO confused now.. I did advanced First sem, but now i dont know what to do. think it was a bit of unnecassary stress  personally considering you dont need it for next year ie Normal Physics suffices. What are your views guys.With timetabling tomorow?? .

Avoid physics at all costs.
What do you want to do though, major wise?

Mechanical Systems/ Outright physics major :p.. Im thinking the normal physics..as advanced isnt a requirement for anything next year and seems an unnecassary burden.. :-\

Well considering you already tried your luck and didn't enjoy it so much then it could be the way to go.
Just be sure you won't get two weeks in and feel bored/like you cheated yourself at all by skipping a subject you were capable of doing but didn't want to do.
As long as you're comfortable with the decision to downgrade, I SAY DO IT.

I was exactly in your position when I was in first year. I personally thought that I was going to fail physics 1 advanced but ended up with a 79 so I was shocked and decided I would stay in the advanced stream.

If your considering doing second or third year level physics, it doesn't really give you that much of an advantage. Before the Melbourne model you could do an advanced physics major or a standard physics major, but now you can only do a standard physics major where the third year subjects are essentially inbetween the advanced and standard subjects in terms of difficulty.

Hmm for now ive downgraded.. Not feling to good about that. If in anycase i get a decent result ill go back up :/..only problem is with timetabling then again.
Anyway the fact is that we never get tested much on the advanced content. aah so confusing :/

In my mind the advantages of being in the advanced stream are mostly:
* More demonstrations in lectures
* Probably better lecturers (David Jamieson and others)
* There's likely to be a higher proportion of passionate physics students in the advanced stream

You won't necessarily learn more in the advanced stream, that depends more on you. Personally, I found the advanced stream too fast.
