hi all
i was wondering if anyone had a list of significant quotes for 'Look Both Ways'? I know Nick said he had a list but he may have never got around to uploading them.
Thank you

My teacher gave us these standard ones. I've got more. I'll add to it later.

1. ‘Everyone has to find a way of facing their own death’. (Joan to Nick)
2. ‘Shouldn’t I be dumping you if you’ve got cancer? (Meryl to Nick)
3. ‘Maybe it was meant to be.’ (Meryl)
4. ‘Things just happen.’ (Anna to Andy)
5. ‘This is not about you, Andy’. (Phil)
6. ‘That’s just it, isn’t it…, knowing’. (Andy)
7. ‘I’m not gonna top myself. (Andy to his ex.)
8. ‘What’s the point of knowing where you are up to if you still have to go through it
anyway?’ (Meryl on the seven stages of grief.)
9. ‘I’ve been seeing death everywhere this weekend.’ (Nick)
10.‘We have no light promised us to show our road 100 kilometres away, but we have
a light to show us the next footstep and if we take that we will have a light to show
us the one that is to follow’. (Nick to Meryl, reading from an illustrated card.)
11. ‘It wasn’t your fault.’ (Julia to train driver .after the accident)
"And I made that connection between hard work and results, performance. I kept pushing myself seeing how far I could improve myself, and knew if I worked hard I would improve." Nathan Buckley

To sort out the confusion: I'm a girl!

“I’m fine. I’m just being stupid….I don’t own my own home and I have no children. And I don’t have a partner to share anything with. And I don’t own a yacht and I’ve never been on a world cruise. And my older sister ate all the smoked salmon sandwiches at the funeral”

“This was about a major social injustice” (Andy)

“This is not about you Andy” (Phil)

“I’m not going to go jumping in front of a train any time soon” (Andy)

“Contrary to your usual belief, you do hold fate in your own hands” (Friend)

“Cancer’s always crap” (Meryl)

“Don’t you guys always say that you only ever take one great photo?” (Andy)

“Do you believe in god?” (Nick considering his own mortality)

“Who would believe in something so ridiculous?” (Andy’s cynicism)

“If you get there and then there’s no heaven then who cares- you’re dead then anyway aren’t you?” (Andy)

“Ever got anyone pregnant?” (Andy)

“That’s just it isn’t it? Knowing…” (Andy)

“How would you know? Do you have children?” (Father of sick child to Anna)

“Anna you can work on the school holidays?” (Anna’s supervisor)

“See the photo…front page… it’s good to get some good news… finish up with the job…for now” (Phil)

“I’ve given up smoking” (Phil)

“You didn’t even want kids remember and now you’re going to top yourself” (Cathy)

“A night of fun leaves one paying the bills for the rest of his life while the other gets the house, the car and the affirming action in the workplace” (Cathy reading Andy’s article)

“How could you? I’ve never stopped you seeing the kids” (Cathy)

“But you’ve probably  seen real poverty” (Meryl)

“Poverty. War. Natural disasters. Then back to the mini bar” (Nick’s cynicism)

“Are you over the shock?” (Nick)

“The dad shock? Or the accident shock? Can you have two at once?” (Meryl)

“What’s the point in knowing where you’re up to if you still have to go through it anyway?” (Meryl)

“I’ve been seeing death everywhere this weekend” (Nick)

“So do I, I imagine it happening all the time” (Meryl)

“Do you see death when you look at me?” (Nick)
“Death? Why are we talking about death? Not like the good old days where you just ignored in wholeheartedly” (Meryl)

“It is a tale told by an idiot. Filled with sound and fury”

“Life is but a walking shadow”

“Narrow minded shit in the world” (At shop- Andy)

“It wasn’t much fun for him” (Nick)

“When it would have been better for him to find peace” (Joan)

“Your father’s death was not the sum of his life” (Joan)

“It doesn’t matter how life ends, it matters how it was” (Joan)

“I couldn’t give him my way of coping and you couldn’t give him yours” (Joan)

“Everybody has to find a way to face their own death, and life” (Joan)

“I didn’t do anything. He just lay there terrified” (Nick reflecting on how he regrets the way he reacted to his father’s condition)

“Did you ever like me?” (Anna)

“You have the bay. I’ll pay maintenance. We won’t have to abort” (Anna)
“I didn’t do this deliberately. You were there too” (Anna)

“You wrote that the man killed himself. You think everyone’s got an agenda” (Anna)

“Things just happen” (Anna)

“I’m sorry. It’s just I can’t start anything at the moment” (Nick)

“I don’t have to spend my whole life being polite to people like you” (Meryl)

“Scares everyone too stupid to do anything” (Meryl)

“My dad died two weeks ago, why isn’t my picture on the front of the paper?” (Meryl)
Meryl questions why the media only single out those whose deaths are “newsworthy” and argues that everyone experiences grief and loss.

“Why is it shallow to be lonely and want someone to like you?” (Meryl)

“You’re dumping me because you have cancer?” (Meryl)

“I’m the train driver. I’m sorry”

“It wasn’t your fault” (Julia)
