Advice on moving into further in year 10?

Hi guys.

I'm already doing a 1+2 (economics) and want to move into further 1+2. (I'm in year 10 at the moment.)

Would it be ok if I've missed out on the first unit?

And would the work be very hard to do for me?

(I'm a straight A+ student in maths for this year.)

The maths shouldnt be a worry at all, you should have learnt most of it already in year 9-10 maths. You dont even need to do further 1+2 to do 3+4 so dont worry aobut it too much.

Aight, sweet.

I mean linear graphs are pretty STRAIGHT FORWARD, if you get what I mean. ;)

Other than linears, what other stuff do we do in further?

(11\60 kids failed further last semester, if I do very well in it, will it boost or pull down my score?)

In Further 1/2, the topics that are selected/covered depend on each school.

In Further 3/4, all students must do the Core, i.e. Data Analysis (Statistics?) and choose 3 out of 6 Modules:

1. Number patterns
2. Geometry and trigonometry
3. Graphs and relations
4. Business-related mathematics
5. Networks and decision mathematics
6. Matrices

So I get to pick out of those 6 what I want to learn? Wait, that sounds wrong, or is it correct?

The school picks

Oh, okay.
But what if let's say the school picks the first 3 but the exam is concentrated on the last 3?
What happens there?

Well the school does pick, but last year someone in our further class purposly did a different module to everyone else on the exam and did really well on it, getting the same SS as me. He did matrices as it was easier but It did mean that he had to learn Business for our Sac aswell. Really stick to what your school does, but try to perusade them your way before the year starts. This year at our school they have changed to matrices because he did so well in it.

Each module has a separate part in the exam. You have to indicate on the exam whcih modules you will be doing. So you can study for a different module and do that in the exam instead of one of the ones your school is doing.

thanks B^3 and Swarley.

So, that means there are different exams when it comes to further? That makes sense.

They are not different exams, you all get the same one but you only fill in the particular sections that coreespond to your module. check vcaas past exams so you see what we mean.

I'm doing Further 3/4 at MPSC this year, and here's what we're doing:

* The obligatory core
* Geo & Trig
* Business Maths
* Matrices

I'm confident that the school will continue with the same modules by the time you undertake units 3 and 4. A maths teacher at our school said business maths is usually chosen every year due to the large amount of business management and accounting students at MPSC. Furthermore, the teacher pointed out that matrices is the easiest module and geo & trig is the 'interesting module'.
