Out of curiosity, how is everyone doing at the moment for chem unit 4? Enjoying it so far? :)

Yeh having more fun than unit 3, which for me is suprising since maths is my thing, although I haven't moved anywhere since I hit electrochem at the end of term 2.

Me too :) However, I've heard that quite a lot of past students say that they really 'hated' unit four. So far it's been pretty good for me; a lot more straightforward than unit three in my opinion.

Not quite at the stage of electrochem yet, slowly making my way there... haha, too much in my holiday mood.

Yeah, chapters 15-17 in the Heinemann textbook is pretty straightforward! :) There's a fair amount of maths involved such as the equilibrium constant and acidity constants.

Still not as much maths as there is in chemical analysis of unit 3. For unit 3 chem and physics were level for me but now unit 4 chem is way better than unit  physics.

Magnetism is so tricky + boring. Unit 4 Physics is going to be a drainer... :(

I prefer unit 3. I guess the equilibrium stuff in unit 4 is interesting, and I enjoyed chapters 15-17. However I hated ch 18. Production of Ammonia/Sulfuric acid was somewhat interesting, however I feel as if I personally just 'read' it and noted stuff down more than really taking the time to understand everything fully. I also liked thermochemical equations (ch 25) as I guess its mathsy :D

Galvanic Cells are somewhat interesting as well - I remember my tutor telling me about all this electrochemical series stuff last year! I guess it's good to know that that knowledge wasn't wasted. Didn't like reading through the cells/batteries chapter, as it was so theory-heavy.

The final chapter is so-so. The theory is kinda ehhh but there are calculations involved (YAY FARADAY :D)

Just my two cents.

I have to say though, going through that whole chapter of green chemistry was hell, I sat there wondering why I was doing this? Then flipped the page and jumped up in the air (and I nearly said "Yatta!" for those of you who are familiar with Hiro Nakamura). Finally finished the worse chapter of my life.

I agree with Vince, the only chapter that bugged me was chapter 18. Not sure how much of it is actually relevant to the actual course. Haven't seen any questions based specifically on chapter 18 in any of the exams I have done.

I loved Unit 3, it was so fun.

Words cannot describe how happy I was whenever an amino acid drawing question popped up!

+1 I liked the organic chem stuff.
