EDIT: Oh and for ethylene q. apparently they accepted both ABA and ethylene as an answer. and my tutor sed that with the placebo q. apperently there was a disagreement of something on that q.s because the psych students learnt about it and most of them would have got it right which put non-psych students in a disadvantage - HOW UNFAIR IS THAT

Any (good) psych student would have ripped off the word-to-word definition:

Yeah, I 100% agree.  It is something very basic which you all should have learnt in experimental design.  It is practically the control group, which they put a huge emphasis on in VCE biology.
