...and uni maths?

hey all,
im currently deciding if doing uni maths in yr12 is a step in the right direction.

Subject undertaken in 2007
.Further maths 3/4
Subjects in 2008
english 3/4
methods 3/4
spec 3/4
physics 3/4
uni maths (maybe)

Iam pretty good at maths and enjoy it but, from what i heard doing uni maths aswell makes 4 of my subject maths related and this would b too much in year 12...so what should i do?
Comments appreciated :D
I will be tutoring Specialist/Methods in 2009. PM me if interested!

2007-Further Maths (47)
2008-English(28), Methods(46), Spech (44), Physics(34)

2009-Bachelor of Mechtronics engineering. Monash-Clayton

but yuou know they only take 2 maths subjects towards your enter... so either further/methods/specialist is going to be ignored.

no nono
they still take the uni maths, its just one of your methods or spec will likley be dropped.

If youre primarily interetsed in getting a good study score, you probably need to decide whether youre going to do better in methods or specialist, then drop the other... OR alternatively, if you think you did poorly in further, do better in methdos and spec.. they wotn count the worst one. (They still add the incerement from uni maths).

Its just methods and specialist is a big workload, nad if oure going to do better in furhter anyway then itll be a waste of a subject

Nah he's wrong. They can all count. There used to be a rule that only 2 subjects can be in the top 4, which meant that your 3rd maths score would be in bottom 2 (fixing Physics in your top 4, since Uni Maths is automatically an increment subject anyway).

But now you can get all your maths in the top 3, if I'm not mistaken.

if you want to maximise your enter i don't suggest it. doing uni maths without a background in methods 3/4 already is not a good idea. and its a high workload but the max you can get is 5.5 points. not worth it.

This year I'm doing exactly the same set of subjects you're planning on doing next year ... and you're right, it does make it seem like you come to school only to do maths. Personally I found uni maths to be a royal pain in the arse, mainly because I let it sit dormant for most of the semester until when I actually needed to prepare for an assignment/exam. However since you like maths you probably wouldn't do that.

Make sure you double-check whether you can use it as credit towards your preferred uni course. I found out halfway through the year that the software development course I'm planning on doing doesn't have a math unit, so my uni maths is useless to me except for the few extra aggregate points.

oh i always thought they only take 2 maths in your top 4! Can someone confirm this?

iam very confused bout uni maths, my teacher told me to do it but i have little clue on how it goes towards your enter( like is it the same as any other subject and has a study score out of 50?)

It becomes a 10% subject ... so, on top of your aggregate (calculated from your english score + your 3 next best subjects, + 10% of your fifth best subject), you get 4 if you pass, 5 if you get credits (?) and 5.5 if you're getting distinctions/high distinctions.

and also if i plan on doing just further, spec and methods, assuming only 2 of those 3 subjects are accounted for in my top 4, would further maths be in the bottom 2?

Two maths(VCE) will be in your top 4.
The other one will be your increment.
Uni Maths has to be in your increment anyway.

i.e:
English
Spesh*
Methods*
Physics

increments:
further*
uni maths

*Which ever is lowest after scaling is in your increment. Um.. Physics can't be kicked out. LOL.
