how do we get, add, use and program latex :S

please help.
oh yes and can you help me with this question.

Find a when the remainder = 0 at x-2

P(x) = x^3 + x^2 - 2a(x) + a^2

this is what i've done so far.

8 = 12 - 2(a)2 +a^2

and then i moved the 12 over to minus it from the 8 but i'm not sure how to get rid of the squared part of the a. please help. easy question btw.

Or, you could have just used the quadratic formula on (1)
