Well....

i was going to be a software engineer, but after a lot of thinking i will probably get sick of computer as i will work with them 24/7. so looking at different careers...

i was thinking either Civil/Infrastructure or Electrical/Electronic Engineering

What is the difference between electronic and electrical engineering?
How are the salaries for these jobs?

also does Mechatronics = electrical?

I was looking at either UoM or RMIT, which one do u think is better?

My bro is in a similar situation, he was deciding between UoM and RMIT but now his going to pick UoM (Civil Engineering), simply because of its prestige as the best university in Melbourne (2nd best Australia).

For universities I would go Melbourne.

For the branch of Engineering, well there is a huge scope for Civil Engineers in Australia so you'd get a good job as long as your results are up to scratch.
I would choose Civil but thats my personal opinion, its really up to you and what you like doing. Designing skyscrapers and huge building :D or designing gadgets and making things like televisions and phones :D

from my understanding, mechatronics is the field of enginerring where you use mechanical as well as electronic components in a design, such as modern machineries and "gadgets" as you put it. do a bit of googling and read up.

as for "where", I think many people can vouch for the disastrous engineering faculty at UoM (from what I've heard, the only good one is probably chemical). It has prestige, but I think Monash offers a much more up-to-date course with better facilities (and opportunities and practically everything else :P )
If you want a quality engineering degree, I think you should seriously consider Monash.
just look at the ENTERs for bachelors of Engineering at Monash

VCE 2008 | Monash BSc (Chem., Appl. Math.) 2009-2011 | UoM BScHon (Chem.) 2012 | UoM PhD (Chem.) 2013-2015

the thing is monash is too far for me so its not an option
that leaves me with RMIT or UoM or Swinburne
