Are there any advantages of doing more than six VCE subjects? Would you recommend it? Why do people do more than six?

People do more than 6 subjects because it creates a bigger pool of subjects to choose from when the VCAA calculates your ENTER.

ie. More subjects means more study scores which means that if you did 10 subjects, got 45 in 6 of them (one of them being English) and 30 in 4 of them, then all the 45 ones would be used to calculate your ENTER.

If you only did 6 and say got three 45's and 3 30's, then your ENTER would not be as high.

Does that make sense?

Yes, but is that the only reason. Surely there must be other reasons.

sometimes people are silly and get bored, and they decide it'll be fun and "worth it" to do more than 6
sometimes it pays off, sometimes those people are still bored.

I did 8 because I didn't wanna drop any of the subjects I picked, and the ones I DID wanna drop I had to do as a pre-req for medicine ><

I honestly was not advantaged by doing 8 at all. Maybe do 7 so that you can stuff up in 1 subject and it won't affect your ENTER but having 2 spare subjects was kinda pointless ... plus ... I had to do the GAT 3 times ... *cries*

I'm happy with my 6 subjects... Not many at my school had the opportunity to do a 6th subject last year, and I was just so thankful for that extra 10%. Now that I think of it, some extra subjects would have been nice. :P
