Hey guys, just wondering how much people who are aiming for 40 + in english are studying it on average everynight. Also, is everyone buckling down on it now or started a lot earlier? Just a bit worried ive left it a little late in favour of my other subjects. Thanks

Hey Roly, don't worry, its never too late to start studying. I've never studied for it every night so to speak, but i also did something related to it atleast 3 times a week i'd say. Whether it was just exploring essay topics in more depth before writing them, completely summeries of infomation, or just reading the texts i tried to do something productive. I'm not necessarily aiming for over 40, but around 38 would be nice.

To answer your question specifically, i have started to 'buckle' down on it now. I'm starting to complete practice essays in timed conditions, and give them to my teacher to mark. But don't worry, i left english in favour of my other subjects too, don't we all at some point?

how have you been going with the SACs?

It depends how naturally English inclined you are. I have always been good with English (not so much the spelling and shit... sometimes it gets pretty bad lol) and I tend to have a sort of capacity if that makes any sense. For example:If I am studying a text, I get to a stage where I know the text really well, am confident to write about it etc... so I can not study that text for a few weeks, pick it up again, look at some notes that I have made or have on it and be right back where I was a few weeks prior. (this is usually after about the third reading where I am peaking). That's just how I work though.

Maybe if you can apply that to yourself then you can become efficient in English study; minimum input, maximum output. Do something properly once and then you'll have it glued in your mind.

As for language analysis, I tend to get shitter when I haven't done one for ages but I'll just improve and tweak coming up to exams (the last 6 weeks before or so)...

I don't really 'study' for English. Maybe just try do something right once, and then just revise every so often to keep it fresh? If you do a half-arsed job to start with, you'll probz always be around that half-arsed level.

Oh ohk thanks guys. Well, ive gotten H+ for all my SAC's this year but i do go to a pretty shitty school. I'm going to try and write an essay every night leading up to the english exam. Im really not liking the context section though, ive only even done one essay on it. I find it so much easy to just do a normal text response. Language analysis is alright though, but yeah, it is something you do have to 'refresh' quite often. Any one else hate context?

I started a few months back now, doing 2 essay's a night and sometimes even more. I cant find anymore topics on my books so Im studying other texts to write on, in case my books arent good questions in the exam.
