your exam mark is absolute, no-matter what. It'll be ludicrous if that changed! If it did, then people would have no incentive for studying for exams, because the results would be taken away from them! LOL

Joe: "Hey you're ranked first in SACs, yeah,"
Steve: "Yeah? I'm just below you mate, Did you study good for the exams"
Joe: "Yeah, you"
Steve: "Not really, I know other people will study harder than me, so I didn't bother"
Joe: "So what did you get for the exam?"
Steve:  "E+, you"
Joe: "WOAH WHAT THE HELL, I got an A+"
Steve: "Not for long, *yonk*, you can have mine"
Joe: "I'm going to shoot you and the VCAA with my AK-47, kthxbai"

lol.

i got close to C+ and mostly B+ with a couple of A's for bio last year but i got two A+ in my exam and my sacs went to an A+
got 40 raw

its about the ranking. it is possible that you still ranked fairly high with those scores.

If you are ranked 17th in Sacs, you will get the 17th best Exam score, that is why our teachers always tell us to work together, to ensure that all scores get marked up, and are good. I'm pretty sure

how can that be right? that means it almost doesnt matter how you do in exams because your mark will be determined by your ranking.

that is true for the SAC component of your SS, it is indicative of your performance for the year. To the best of my knowledge, two things are constant in your assessments: your exam score, and your SAC ranking.

ohw, so whats with people saying sac scores get pulled up if you do well in and exams and stuff?

i did acc last year, averaged low B for Sacs for the year, got A and A+ for exams and the SAC component on my results showed an A+. wasn't ranked that high either, id say about 70% of the people doing acc in my school did better than me.

Hmm, well if you say that 70% of the people doing acc did better than you in sacs...
Then maybe 70% of people also did better than you in the exam (getting A+'s and A's)

Therefore, maybe the sacs marks were moderated and adjusted so that they were similar to the exam scores...

What school do you go to? Do you have a very high achieving cohort?

that means your cohort as a whole did well in the exams. statistical moderation of SAC scores take into account the whole cohort, hence if you were ranked in the middle of the cohort and your SAC component of your results was A+, that means the majority of your cohort received high scores in the exams

my personal take on this, however, is that you are underestimating your own SAC ranking.

not necessarily. it just implies that about 70% of people received high exam scores. Where he sits in that 70% of high exam scores has little impact on his SAC ranking

lol i guess that makes sense, i got to MHS soo yeah, pretty high achieving. so, its kinda an advantage in terms of getting your sac scores moderated right? since everyone pretty much does well in the exams? my main concern is whether its still theoretically possible to get 40+ raw in say a subj like methods if your sac ranking isnt that great..

& *Roxxii* why do you think you got 41 in further last year? im doing it andd i pretty much need 50 (lol). what kind of mistakes did you make that you reckon you'll overcome to aim for 48+ this year?

if you go to MHS, i wouldn't worry too much about not getting a 40+. ranking in that place is crazy, you don't need to be at the top to get an awesome SAC score simply because of the amazing level of achievement at exams.

just make sure you do well in the exams =] you'll get 40+ easy.

Earlier on last year, i never took the subject seriously...
So i got like a sac mark which was like 13/20 or something.
Coming from a crappy cohort, it sorta disadvantaged me a bit...
I didn't study all that much for the exams, just crammed a a few days before :P
And also, i made quite a few very silly errors in the exams by not reading carefully...

I actually got A+,A+, A+... but they must have been pretty low ones :(
And this year, i have been getting full marks on all sacs so far and coz i've done the course before, i'm sorta aware of the little tricks they sometimes do in the multis lol. grr they are annoying :P

So yeah, i'm actually aiming for a 50...but i dont wanna hope for too high lolz.
Good luck with getting a 50 :)
