GAP YEAR

hey guys,

Is anyone thinking of taking a gap year next year???

I am considering working for 6 months then doing some travel and volunteer work for the other half of the year.

And for those who did take a gap year is it worth it?

I'm seriously considering it. If I do, I'd work up until the start of June then head to the mountains and do a season up there, hopefully instructing. Then with the two months or so between the northern and southern hemisphere's season overlap I'd work some more in Melbourne then head overseas and do most of a season there, either in Japan or Canada I'd say. Come back in late Feb in time for uni.

DO IT, DO IT!!

I took a "forced" 6 month gap coz I just couldn't handle going 2 uni and having to start studying again so soon.

Like, I had absolutely no intention of taking a gap-anything.

Do I regret it?

No.

The only thing I regret is that I did not structure it.
If I had intended the whole time to take a gap year/semester, I would've mixed work with travel.

But srsly, there's nothing better to thrust you into the real world and open your eyes to life than a well-structured gap year.
As long as you don't bludge the whole year away. That's so not cool.

The thing is... there's so many young adults that "just wanna finish year 12", then "just wanna finish uni and get a job".
Like, by the time they've finally gotten the job and apparently started living their life and doing what they *really* want, a quarter of their lifetime is already gone.

I intend to run off to Japan for a post-grad gap year on a working holiday visa.

I want to go Canada/US. Possibly do an exchange also if possible.

I really want to see Canada though lol. Dunno why. Apparantly Vancouver is the best city in the world to live (equal with Melbourne ;) ;)) so I want to see what all the hype is about.

Also Canada have the biggest Shopping mall in the Northern Hemisphere (at Calgary).

lol, I also want to see NYC and wall street. ah yes. :)

But i'm not going to take a gap year, probably do it at 2nd year, end of year holidays lol.

I never considered doing a GAP year, but I think I would have liked to in hindsight.

ive considered sort of doing a gapyear/3 year vce

I might take up 2 more subjects by distance after year 12 and just concentrate on those 2 subjects to possibly improve my enter, while working and relaxing at the same time  :D

wow thats actually a really good idea, that never crossed my mind but if i dont get my desired enter that may become a viable option. I like your thinking :)

I won't get my ENTER (I don't think I will anyway), and hence, I think I am going to follow psychlaw's regime! Maybe then, I can get study score higher than 30 :(

There's danger in doing that tho...

U really, really have 2 b self-motivated 2 do well with distance-ed VCE.
It's really easy 2 get caught in the trap of not doing ur best this year coz u figure u can always do it again nxt year, then u end up slacking off halfway thru nxt year.

Try 2 c it as an ultimatum this year so u do ur best, but if the stress gets 2 much then u can gently remind urself that there's always nxt year if worst comes 2 worst.
