Not interested.
Same here. I did go along to the Melbourne University Debating Society AGM because I was asked to help make a quorom of non-committee members and wasn't doing anything else that lunch, but I couldn't care less for student politics myself.

Yeah, it's pretty silly. They're not powerful enough to do anything substantial (AFAIK), and thankfully that's the case because otherwise I'd have to contribute a lot of time and effort into them just to prevent the left-wing students from screwing things up.

I never sign petitions either, even if they're for causes I agree with. This is because they come bundled with a diatribe about socialism.

lol, I signed one of the socialist alliance's (or alternative's?) petitions yesterday. The person behind the table was my pols tutor so I felt that I had to smile at her and, of course, after making eye contact, I was lost.

The student elections are over now, they were really really annoying. Heaps of people at my college were running for the same party (which ended up winning by quite a big margin) and so they felt that it was okay for them to come up to me and tell me to vote for them (along with all the other parties! I had to avoid union court entirely for about 3 weeks). I didn't vote. I don't feel informed enough. Also, I don't want to be personally responsible for having some douchbag's CV look just a bit more impressive.

LSS (law student's society) ones have just finished.  I voted for people because
1. one is a friend of mine
2. one went to my high school. ftw.
3. one was an independent and I felt sorry for her cos she was being swamped by all these parties

Obviously, I don't take them seriously because I don't feel that they really have that much power to do anything lol

The madness has started this week at UOM, dodging all the different parties around uni is a skill which requires a lot of effort :P.
Some snippets of what goes on in IRC:

<chath> ill say " i wont let you go until u kiss me bitch"

<@enwiabe> i have the BEST orgasms when i'm working through a math problem

<@mark_alec> my bikini line however, is most important

Are you scared yet?

Today I stupidly decided to walk through the concrete lawns. I tried to avoid eye contact, BUT THERE WERE TOO MANY OF THEM! I lost out, and got stuck listening to the standard VSU/left/gay marriage rant, plus a tiny bit about voting. I HAVE ALREADY SIGNED YOUR GAY MARRIAGE PETITION OK, HOW MANY ARE THERE?!?
