I know some of you are applying through UAC, and I was curious about what preferences you're putting down. Post them, please?

Question for Memka:

Why would go interstate to do a degree, when you can do the same degree in Victoria (your hometown)?

Question for Memka:

Why would go interstate to do a degree, when you can do the same degree in Victoria (your hometown)?

Because...

Only easily accesible uni from my home is UoM. I want to study archaeology. This is now "Ancient World Studies" at UoM which isn't the same. Plus massive Arts funding cuts and no double degrees at UoM decrease its appeal. Deakin Uni doesn't have archaeology at all and I'd have to move anyway if I went to Monash or Latrobe/pretty much anywhere else.

ANU has an excellent School of Archaeology including the option to study Biological Anthropology (which I'm also interested in, and that is only avaliable at ANU). Plus as a uni it's ranked right up there and the ENTER required is quite achievable.

So I guess really its the fact that I can't do the same degree in Victoria that makes moving interstate seem quite reasonable lol.

Emeritus = retired from teaching, but still does research. He goes on a dig in Syria every year, where he's been digging up some massive roman temple for the last 15 years. Pretty sweet.

I have a friend who is majoring in Biological Anthropology and she loves it :)

More like 25 years +.
And did you know he was arrested by the Syrian secret police a few years ago. Just found out a couple days ago.

Yeah, knew about it for ages. He got an email from an Israeli colleague = big no-no while you're in Syria.

Someone I met at uni got arrested in Lebannon. He was released when he told his interrogators that his dad worked for the Ministry of Telecommunications, but only after being held for several hours, because they threatened to beat the living daylights out of him if he as much as opened his mouth.
