It was about the inclined plane with a pulley at the end. You needed to find A and B where A is the minimum angle for equilibrium and B was the maximum possible angle. Like many of the questions, i remember getting A=7.8 and B=30.4, but i have no idea how i did it...

To find lower and upper bounds for theta you had to consider two cases. If the frictional force is acting down the plane or up the plane. By solving some equation involving sin and cos you eventually get those answers.

Yeah, but you could just plot the equation and find the x-intercept. Wouldn't be hard on any calculator...  8)

how did u guys attempt the last question??
i graphed the fint(f(x),x,8,x) and the other function, and found intercept, but the fuking calculator, 84+ takes like 50-60secs to graph it, and i graphed about 3-4 times with wrong scale... everytime change the window, take that long to graph again.
and takes like 1 min to find intercept too...
is there any better way to attempt it?

Use a CAS calculator and the solve function. Takes a few seconds.

I wonder if I should buy a CAS calculator for spec next year, seeing that it gives an 'unfair advantage'?

If you've got the cash, i would.

Would a CAS calculator be useful for uni courses too?

Cas is nice :) As long as you learn how to do everything by hand, first. For methods last year (and in 1/2), my school put far too much emphasis on how to use the calculator, and as a result when I started preparing for exam 1, I realised just how much I couldn't do without it. I am still worse at exam 1s than exam 2s.

I found on the internet somewhere how to define a function on it to make it do implicit differentiation :D that was very useful except for the fact I didn't need it this year.

I've never used a non cas graphics calculator (well I've picked up my friends ones and complained that I can't use it and give it back after 30 seconds) so I don't have a great understanding of what we can do that normal ones can't. It is nice though, being able to differentiate/integrate everything so you know if you're right or not :)
