Nah, the jump to 61 wasn't because of the melbourne model, it was because monash cut number of interviews. Monash got the same amount of applications that it would have had there been no melbourne model.

I would argue a balance of both

I'd say it wouldn't have any effect AT THIS STAGE. Those who would've previously applied at Melbourne would obviously have also applied for Monash, so there's no difference. The only difference now is that once the offers are out, there's less people passing up their Monash offers for something else (i.e. Melbourne), so of course the end result is that higher UMATs, interview performances and ENTERs may be needed.

Yeah shinjitsu, that's where the sweeping effect will be. First round offer requirements will go up epically because no-one will have UoM first preferences.

My friend was so cut this afternoon! Her brother told her she didn't get in, and she instantly gave up on Medicine. I was more disappointed than she was, because I think she was one of the only few people from my school who could actually get a decent job. :(

Which would be the reason that they cut interview numbers - they would expect less reneging on offers to UoM.

Yeah, makes sense...

Here's hoping that an emergency meeting between the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor at UoM results in immediate discontinuation of the Melbourne Model from 2010 (I think its too late for all you class of 08 people :P)

FEE-HELP will help you =]

and once you graduate and start earning good money, the debt shouldn't be too much of a problem :P

There is also Melbourne Access scholarships for graduates. They may decrease your HECS liability if you get selected :)

Or alternatively, grab a deferred loan from a bank. Ask for payments to be deferred in  3 years time (which should land  you a job by then) so you can pay it off. [it's inadvisable to select a interest-only loan though lol] :)

If the course costs the same as Monash, FEE-HELP will only cover about half of it

i got an interview but its in bendigo, i did apply for the rural access scheme (or whatever they decide to call it), does this mean they are considering lower umat scores for this already? even before enter and interview?
also-
i know i am one of the lower umat scores accepted for interview and i will probably have one of the lower enters (probably realistically 97-98.5) but i think i could interview quite well.
what type of impact does this have on my selection?

thanks.
