i was just having a look through the criteria for both subjects and noted a difference in section C,

English

Shows a perceptive and sophisticated understanding of a range of ways in which the written and
visual language positions readers in the context presented.

ESL

Shows a sophisticated understanding of a range of ways in which the written and visual language
positions readers in the context presented.

i just wanted to clarify what it meant by a 'perceptive' understanding? :/

English students are supposed to have insight into the issue, but ESL students can simply copy a study guide word for word?

Nono.... Perceptive means that their writing is insightful, so I suppose it requires a greater degree of depth.
