Business Maths Question 7??
« on: November 03, 2008, 07:34:42 pm »
I've asked this question in the other board but noone replied.

I have heard answers of A, B and C? I chose C only because the loan was being PAID OFF and hence it would in the reverse shape as if it was being PAID OUT? Ahhhh and I slightly took a guess as well haha..  but I think it is C yeah??

PS. I can't wait for itutes answers (they take forever)!! !

Assuming each repayment is the same, then an increasing percentage of each repayment goes to pay off the principal. This means that the amount paid off must be incresing exponentially until 100% (or almost) of the final payment is for the Primcipal amount
Answer is B

amount paid off increases with every payment because interest payable decreases. atleast thats my understanding - which means i selected b

its the last one,
as the loan is paid off,
the grpah slight decreases in a compounding form.

Dont forget it was asking a reducing balance.
Not simple interest,
ur paying the loan off, so the loan decreases.

its not asking for the effect on the loan though, its asking for the effect on the amount paid OFF

so its like,

$10 (loan) - $3 (repayment) = $7 (balance)

your interpretation is that its gone down from $10 to $7 but what the question is asking is for the amount paid off the 10 bucks ---> $0 to $3. therefore a positive slope, but increasing as the interest payable is reduced as time goes on.

edit: just read your second post, sorry lol

from what I understand it's not asking you for the reducing balance amount but the actual AMOUNT that is being PAID OFF.. hence the graph should be going upwards because the payments start at $0 and then increase.

also.. that is why VCAA bolded 'paid-off' to emphasise that it's the payments that they are talking about and not the actual principle
