It doesnt matter? i dont think so. As either rule would give you the same result, but some graphs you have to ultillize both...

yeh but how do we know whether to take the upper estimate or lower estimate when they specify the 'rule'

Do you mean, if the question asks you to find "left-endpoint" rectangles, you don't understand how to graph it?

I'm not sure if that's what you mean, but if it is, you just need to draw a rectangle that has the top-left corner touching the graph.
