Basically you MUST do one subject each semester outside your faculty. Thats all! :)

Its supposed to make graduates more diverse and open minded, at least thats the plan

I've been looking into it and the options don't seem that open - Would i be able to do, say, History and Psych as majors, and then History as a breadth? Or does it have to be something totally unrelated and gay, like Music or Science? I don't particulary like this Breath component, but the campus is so damn sexy that it's still my 1st preference lol.

2008 | Media Studies [42] English [40] History Revolutions [40] Further Mathematics [39] Psychology [37]

2009 | Arts/Education [Secondary] - Monash Clayton.

The breadth subject is supposed to be in a different field of study, so if you want to do Arts, History would def be out.
Check out the list of possible options for Arts students, you might find something to suit.

I'm not quite sure about Psych, or doing a diploma in languages or creative writng [which are both offered within arts.] Watch this space, or find out yourself.

yep, unrelated and gay is the general idea. psych isn't available for arts/science students.

Yeah she does PhB Arts. I'm guessing she's busy doing her ASC (Advanced Studies Course) right now though because they're due tomorrow for PhB Arts kids - I imagine my neighbour (who also does PhB Arts) will be pulling an all nighter to finish it, she has to write 4000 words.

I finished mine for maths today. 8500 words/27 pages! :o
VCE 2006
PhB (Hons) (Sc), ANU, 2007-2010
MPhil, ANU, 2011-2012
PhD, Princeton, 2012-2017
Research Associate, University College London, 2017-2020
Assistant Professor, University of Virginia, 2020-

Feel free to ask me about (advanced) mathematics.

Depends on what area you do it in. My neighbour does history, so she basically does a lot of research on a certain area and then writes a massive fuckoff essay on it (usually in an area that she wouldn't otherwise do as an undergrad, or where she wouldn't have gone into nearly as much depth). Other areas of Arts would be pretty similar for the most part.

For science, it varies greatly. For bio/chem/phys you might set up an experiment that'd take 8-10 weeks to do then write a lab report on it. For maths, you usually just research an area that you wouldn't have done otherwise and write a report. My 27 page report was on "Resolving the Banach-Tarski Paradox" (have a look on Wikipedia for what this is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banach-Tarski_Paradox). So basically I describe the various mathematical ways to try to make sense of what is a very illogical result. Quite interesting stuff, in my opinion. Which is why I wrote 27 pages on it, I suppose.

I checked, and you're right, I can't do a diploma of languages as my breadth component. Ugh, I'm annoyed now, I had everything planned out. Now I'm not sure what I'm doing.

mm I don't mind the breadth component so much, I'm pretty interested in economics so doing some economics/finance subjects should be good. Just want stupid VCE to be overrrr.

At this stage philosophy and european studies look like the two disciplines I'd be most likely to major in. What's vce philosophy like Butler?

Excellent choice. The commerce faculty has developed a program specifically for your needs. http://www.ba.unimelb.edu.au/ugrad/fields/Economics.html

I had to write 3000 words (I did a 2000 word essay earlier on). It's called 'Constitution in Death: The Process of Public Mourning'.
