About CubicReg, QuartReg...
« on: November 09, 2008, 11:55:23 am »
hey guys.. i found this kind of question in multiple choice of MAV 08 paper:
The equation of the cubic function for which the graph passes through the points
(0,1) (-1,-4/3) (1, 4/3) (2, 5/3) is:
... ... ....
as i known for this sort of questions.. we have to use STAT,, edit the table and then
go STAT CALC.. and choose CubitReg right?
but then my calculator displays: DIM MISMATCH..

is there problem in my setting or something? how do i fix it? :knuppel2: :knuppel2:

I think that means you screwed up entering your lists. Usually means that you've got more elements in one list than the other.
Your lists should be:
L1: {0,-1,1,2} and
L2: {1,-4/3,4/3,5/3}
After that, CubicReg should work

hey hippo, if you want to get L2 back press STAT then EDIT. Then go to the top of L3 so it's highlighted then press 2nd DEL(INS). This will allow you to create a new list. Then press L2.

Is there another way of doing this? We never got taught STAT stuff!!

Couldnt you sub those into the general equation, and solve? Or even matrices?

Yeh I've had a few Q's in MC where this has been useful. VCAA '06 sample which I did just then had one.
