The "2nd harmonic" is not possible, the 1st (Edit: oops) ~overtone~ is 3* the fundamental, but you are right->ratios of harmonics = 1:3:5:7 * the fº. I have to agree with the others, that it is a bugged q's

It was a mistake and misleading. But 768 was the only other frequency which could be made in a closed tube, so there was no way it could be any of the others. (the others were 1/2f0, 2fo and 4fo).

Then again terminology is misleading. From what I've learnt, it should have been third harmonic = 1st overtone = 2nd resonant frequency. But it was definitely C

OMG yes i stopped and thought WHAT THE FUCK!?! i treated it as the first overtone (ie 3rd harmonic)

I called VCAA.

After a while and a few calls i got to "Chief Assessor of Examinations" Lol.. and he said that the matter was being looked upon with the "Chief Assessor of Physics"... (obviously i wasnt the first to inquire).

And if you want the number for VCAA EXAMINATION office... it's, 9225 2356 (Ms Kris Allen).

LOL ... side note.. i called up, and at first the guy was like, "I dont think we're idiots" HAHA.. yes you are.

AHHH anyways time for chemistry ... I have vented my frustrations and the future is promising  :D.

[edit]

Physics department should be all fired, they get lazier by the year....

1. They forgot so much to include in this exam
2. They asked like.. the same questions in sound a few times... v = f x frequency....
3. They included Unit 3 material which i knew.. but was just stupid. period.
4. What happened to power loss? What happened to a real tough calculation? Not stupid Voltage dividers...
5. They included that V = B x length x velocity (which was from my knowledge, axed)... (yes i know you could caluclate the time but that's just stupid... ? A motion equation... Get with unit 4 people?)
6. Syncatron? WTF... half of the information can't be tested..  Leave it to uni seriously.. just a lame excuse to say "o we teaching the kids about our syncatron"...
7. They chop out the good part of physics, the stuff that's physics and put rubbish instead...

dont even go there man... (in a hippie voice)

(back to normal voice)
I found out that you can measure the length of a pen tube (~11) cm using a tone generator to determine the frequency you hear when you blow into it. From this you can determine it's length! Because the diameter is small, end correction has virtually no effect.

Yeah, I am a nerd.

where did you have to use BLV? If your talking about the square going through the field, it isnt exactly hard to "calculate" that a square of side 2cm, going at 2cm/s, takes 1 second to move from max to zero flux when its on the edge.

Does anyone know who i might be able to email and complain about these sound questions? Maybe if enough people complain they will accept both answers *prays* lol

no such thing as a closed pipe at both ends.

Yes there is, it's been on a past physics paper before. (it's not actually a pipe, but it's still closed at both ends).
